Im running a Intel C2D E6550 @ 2.80GHz(OC'd), 4 gigs of RAM, and an 8800GT 512mb. I know my hardware should run Vista w/out a hitch, so what do you guys think it is?

ps. im running Vista HP 64bit.

Have you tried killing the explorer process there and restarting it taskman?

This can be due to Virus or Spyware on your computer
Please do a full scan using your updated Antivirus (actually what is your Antivirus?)
And a free updated scan with one of the AntiSpyware programs out there.

There is also the possibility it is caused by Vista indexing service and also the Defrag task happening all the time.

Another option would be to confirm all your MS Security updates are up to date (including Vista SP1)

There is always the possibility that your HardDrive is faulty, you could run a drive diagnostic test on that.

As a test, you could create a new accout, then logoff and logon to the account and check to see if Explorer.exe is now stable (low) again.
