Dell Latitude D620 Needs Service Tag Reset

Hey guys, if any of you have the software utility to Reset/Replace the Service Tag for a Dell Latitude D620 I would appreciate it very much. my email is email removed

I've been reading tons of forums like this one and I have to say that it is nice to see people gathered together helping each other out.

My second question is once I change the service tag... or blank it out, can I put the exact same service tag back in? The only reason why I ask is because I read that the only way to get the option again to deactivate/disable Computrace in the embedded Bios is by resetting the service tag. Even though I have been watching the laptop very carefully, there are no signs (from what I can see) that even though the function is turned on in the BIOS it has not "persisted" to copy itself on to the new hard drive to be executed in Windows XP. Do you think it's because I didn't give any room for a HPA (Hidden Protected Area) on the replacement hard drive I installed? I looked for traces of RPCNET.DLL and RPCNET.EXE and also the ip address of their central monitoring servers. But nothing has come about it from what I have seen.

I would still like to reset the service tag and have the option of being able to permanently disabling the embedded computrace feature in the bios. :)

So yeah, does anyone have that bit of software ? :)

    D610 Service Tag

    Hi all

I wanted to re-enter my Service Tag to my Dell D610. The board was changed months ago and it seems the tech did not change back the Service Tag.
So far I tried Dell Tech CD A11 from a friend but as funny as it was ee-cpb.exe returns "I have told you what I am! What are you?" It also says that either the Service Tag is not in a correct format or the admin password is set. I checked and there is actually no password set for admin, setup, hdd.
I also tried a newer asset.com (v2.09) and a newer svctag.exe but it didn't work with them either. I think the problem is the svctag.inf. Maybe my System is not in the list!?
Can somebody help me from here or show me a different way to get things right?

    thanks martin

Those versions are too old for the D610. Go to this linked website and download the DST CD ISO file and make the DOS Bootable CDR. The ISO file was made from the version on a Dell Tech's CD for Portable Computers A38 from October 2006

    Hi

It seems more and more people are using firefox and are having problems with the site, I am now looking into what I need to do to make it firefox friendly.

In the mean time bear with me all you FF users and I will get to it.

    Regards

It seems that none of the pictures show in FF on any of the pages and when you click a link on the pictures page the HTML link gets a bit confused and parts of the address get changed.

I did just try the Mozilla Forum but its not working, sigh, like I said bear with me.

The site is currently down for some other work I have to do as well, it may be about 24 hours before its back up.

I have posted a thread in TS about the issue so if any FF experts are around please answer the thread.

do you use different sources for different browsers? I just had a look and i see differences between the html sources in ie6 and ff. if I use the source from ie6 in ff everything works fine, the images and the download links as well.

OK I found the fault after a brief post in the mozilla forum and i'm glad to say. fingers crossed, that the site now works in FF without any issues.

But and its a big but ( i like big buts and I cannot lie),.i'm not saying something else may be found, if so, let me know by PM or mail.
