Detect IDE devices error

My computer gets as far as Detect IDE devices just after a ram check doesn't make a sound and hangs there any ideas?

Check/reseat all your drive cables as well as the mobo-side of them.

Thank you for the reply i did take a look inside after i sent that message and the master EIDE cable was completely fried i mean burn mark yellow all the way through. 10months of constant use (probably in a few older machines too)

IDE device issue

I'm a newb, too, and it happened to me. Check your jumpers on your devices -- the hangup could be caused by having 2 devices set as master simultaneously, which some bioses get hung up on. Good luck.
