Does anyone know how to get a Mac with 10.5.7 to authenticate to Active Directory?

I've tried going into the "Directory Utility" in the "Utilities" folder and selecting Active directory but it keeps saying "Unable to add the domain. There was no response form school.k12.ca.us (our domain name) Please enter the address you entered is correct" The DNS is setup and i'm not quite sure what i'm doing wrong. Do I need some sort of 3rd party software?? Thanks in advance guys.

Can we assume the client is attached to the same LAN as the A.D Server?

yeah it's on the same LAN. This particular machine is even on the same subnet but it'd be nice to be able to connect machines that are not on the same subnet :)

    Active Directory Access

    1) client needs TWO DNS entries
    a) first, the IP address of the AD Server.DNS system
    b) second, the general ISP DNS Server

    2) you must be able to PING the AD server
    fix your firewall if not

    3) for other than same subnet, be sure the firewall(s) are enabled
