Does SLI 2nd vid card need to be exact match?

Wanna go SLI. My vid card is a 3-month old GeForce 7950GT and my question is: do I need the EXACT same make and model number vid card when going to SLI?

For instance, my current card is this:
EVGA 512-P2-N635-AR GeForce 7950GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 KO Video Card

Does the second card have to match ALL those specs and numbers?

I know it must be the same model number (ie 7950GT) and have the same ram, clock requencies, etc. Im not sure if it must be from the same company, but I think so.

It has to be the same stats, and it's very highly recommended to be from the same company, but there are legends of cards from different companies working together. I read the results if some 8800GTX SLI benchmarks the other day and they used an eVGA and a BFG (non overclocked version) for SLI.
