I have broblem that original DVD's doesnt play at my PC. Burned DVDr's do play well. Windows XP, PowerDVD or ImgBurn doesn't recognize the disks. I have tried American History X, Shawshank redemtion and In the pirkinning DVD's... Windows doesn't recognize these DVD's. My DVD burner is LG GSA-4163B.
Region code is correct.

What's the problem? Is my DVD burner broken?

You could try flashing the Burners Firmware to latest one, or uninstalling the IDE channel it's on - generally Secondary - in Device Manager. Reboot, and the Channel and Burner will automatically be recognised & drivers installed. Reboot again, and see if that does the trick.

That almost always fixes DMA issues, and may well sort your issue as well.

I removed the LG drive and then started the xp without the drive. After that I booted the pc and I installed the drive again. Same problem. The LG drive shows as CD-drive when I put the original DVD in. Is my DVD-burner broken?

Is my DVD-burner broken?

This is a possibility.

What is the make and model of your Dvd burner?

Common reasons for this is a dirty laser lens in the drive or a drive is becoming bad. As a first step, try cleaning the laser lens as Tedster said.

Also, have you set the region code for the drive yet? without it the drive can not play retail dvds.

Regards Jase :)

LG GSA-4163B A106 with firmware RPC-1.

Region code is set for Region 2 (finland). Next I clean the laser lens.

Yes it would be wise to clean the laser lens, has this is a common problem.

Post back on your outcome.
