DVD writer not recognizing DVDs

    My dell studio 1555's disk drive doesn't recognize DVDs while it does all CDs.
    Also with the CD inserted, the data transfer speed 1-4mbps only. please help me guys, i wanna install W7. I am now running vista home premium.

    There are two lasers in the drive, one for DVD and the other for CD. sounds like the DVD laser has failed. The only other problem may be a dirty lens so try running a lens cleaning disc through it. If that fails you will need a new drive.
