I've spoken to this guy on msn and I personally think his choice was made up before even making the thread.

Wonderful. At least it didn't turn into a flame war. Then he'd have been sorry.

was just asking what the forum thought =]

anyways you think q6600 will drop in terms of prices

you think i could get this thing to 3.4 or 3.5 on stock cooling

Not a chance mate. You'd be quite lucky if you got to 3.2GHz without increasing the voltage.

how bout if i increase voltages

haha. If you actually went ahead and bought that thing, getting less performance for considerably more money, it's totally not worth the wasted time to go any further with you. Proceed at your own folly.

Increasing the voltage will help stability, but the stock cooler won't cut it then.
    More voltage = higher temps.

you asked about the voltages right after his post about increasing the voltages.

    Hmmmm...........

Now let's see, what have we learned....?

Oh yeah, you can't overclock a Q6600 to the point of an E8400. The stock Intel cooler isn't designed for overclocking, and last but not least, at this rate, there will be an LGA775 socket vacant shortly.

well e8400 is like the same price or less or more in some places than q6600

what i see that seems pretty worth buying is e7300 =] at the price of 140

What are you talking about? Now the E7300 is worth buying? I thought we had already bought the Q6600. Are we working on becoming a notorious serial CPU purchaser? Is another poll in the offing?

I said buy one of each, an E8400 and an Q6600 a couple of pages ago. Now maybe a third system with an E7300 just to kick around?

The prices in O'Canada really suck, sorry. The E7300 was on sale at Microcenter all through Christmas @ $104.95 USD.

I did something phenominally stupid with mine, I installed it with a better than stock cooler and have absolutely no intention whatsoever of overclocking it.

Did everybody get the pun with the "phenom(inally)"?

    omg phenom II
