I have over 55gb's of tunes on my pc. From the 40's to current, I believe. Mostly rock & classic rock but a mixture of everything,I think.

I have become stuck on this song lately. I do not know why.

That's Elvis, of course, "the guy Forrest Gump taught how to dance." :D But this is not the tragic, almost pitiful Elvis of the Las Vegas years. This was back when he was young, dangerous, and bad enough so that you'd have thought it likely that he carried a switchblade in his pocket.

Scottie Moore actually does two guitar solos on this song, but the second one was apparently edited out on this clip. The second solo in the studio version of "Hound Dog" is absolutely amazing. Moore comes in with a roaring sound akin to the dive bombs that have become heavy metal cliché nowadays. I think it's a tribute to Moore's skill that -- back in his time -- guitar players had no recourse to all those pedals and effects boxes that have become essential items in the guitar player's gig bag. Scottie Moore was plugged straight into an amp. He did his dive bombing with nothing more than stock pick ups and some reverb. Genius.

I thought this wasn't so bad until the man started to... sing? No offense.

Haha, that's what around half of the people I show this to say. The other half give me a massive lecture about how it isn't music, so at least you're not one of them :)

Oh. Well, thanks! What's an example of a lecture some people give to you? xD

Weeel, there are plenty of them that get thrown my way but the main ones are: "He's just screaming, how does that require any talent? It just sounds disgusting" "They're just randomly playing notes and stuff, there's no melody at all" "They're probably devil worshipers, you just can't tell because you can't understand them" <-- that last one's my personal peev (that song was about the environment lol). Usually it's a mixture of a few of those, and leads to them telling me that "screamo" (I hate that word) isn't a genre of music.

All of those sound familiar to me, but just on a different topic. :-D

Although I don't want to get too involved or get you annoyed, I want to ask you a question. Why exactly do you like this kind of music? I'm just curious.
  10. LukeDJ TechSpot Booster Posts: 292   +48

Well, I guess it all comes down to the fact that music is an extremely subjective form of entertainment. I find the instruments a lot more interesting, and the more I listen to it, the better it gets. I guess it's sort of difficult to articulate exactly why I like it, I just do.

Don't get me wrong, I realize that it is quite confronting and extreme, and I didn't immediately like it either, and I still enjoy other genres of rock, from Foo Fighters to Bring me the Horizon to SOAD to ADTR :p

The best advice I can give to people when it comes to music is to find what you like, and love it, but not be afraid to go out of your comfort zone. Listen to something a little different, and you never know, you might fall in love with something you didn't expect to :)

What do you define as Hardcore? Some would consider this hardcore

  13. LukeDJ TechSpot Booster Posts: 292   +48

I don't mean hardcore as a measurement of the intensity of the music or anything like that. Hardcore is an abbreviation of hardcore punk and/or post-hardcore genres of music, which are pretty broad categories. You'll notice the core in metalcore, which is a fusion genre of hardcore punk and heavy metal.

AC/DC is pretty badass though, there's no arguing there :)

Personally, I can't tolerate any punk, (c)rap & some so-called country music tunes.
Rock 'N' roll will never die. Enjoy your tunes. :)

Weeeeel as you can see, post-hardcore is a very different genre to "punk". I personally don't like to talk bad about other genres of music, no matter how much I hate it. I rarely (if ever) listen to rap, but I respect it enough not to refer to it as (c)rap either.

Music is a purely subjective form of entertainment, so what you like or enjoy has nothing to do with the quality of other music. Rock "N' Roll is music. Rap is music. Listen to whatever the hell you feel like.

I'm sorry if I seem a little aggressive, I just despise people who feel as if they have the right to label a whole movement of music crap, based on personal opinion.

Since I've heard others refer to it as (c)rap, way before I said it, I can be glad I didn't start it but I see your point so to each his/her own? Have a nice day & back to the topic @ hand :)
