Gateway laptop will not go online

laptop was brought to me from a friend a month back when wireless adapter stopped working,i could not take laptop at that time.
now im working on it, it showed in device mgr.yellow warning sign next to network adapters--nvidia nforce networking controller.
i tried uninstalling, reinstalling networking controller drivers, reinstalling windows, service pack 1, service pack 2, in device mgr.>nvidia nforce networking controller> properties>general>device status--this device cannot start (code 10 ) after installing drivers- always get same message--driver software not successfully installed failed contact your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed. lastly uninstalled driver from networking controller properties, restarted windows with same results. any help would be greatly appreaciated. laptop out of warranty.

I don't think it is a driver problem. Sounds like the Mini pci card is bad. I have changed a few and it does happen. They are relatively inexpensive to replace and easy to install or you can go with a wirelss USB adapter.
