I think this is a virus problem.

My daughter just told me that the problems started after she ran a Symantec scan on the 3rd, and it had the following response. (wish she had called me right then, without doing anything else, but...)

ever sence she "cleaned the computer this is the message.

"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

And when I click on the options...it gives:

Error signature

since them, Can't seem to do an update and every time i boot (normal) i get the service host message, then freeze.

i can boot in "safe mode". but the instructions say not to run the scans in safe mode.

ran a hijack this scan yesterday, and here is the log:

i also ran a malware scan yesterday, but it said that it didn't find anything, but it was from a copy i had from a few months ago, and i updated it (i think the update may have been corrupted now).

i have downloaded all of the steps again (on my computer and have it on a usb drive, but i think that i have to run these in safe mode, as i can't get anything but a freeze from normal mode.

Any ideas?

I cannot run any of the scans in normal

I cannot run any of the scans in normal, which scans can i try in safe mode.

i tried tfc in safe mode, but it seemed to go into an endless loop.

"Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

This is a pretty common message when there is a problem. It may or may not be malware related. What you need to know:

1. System Volume Information These are where the restore points are kept. The malware is not active in the system. Unfortunately, Norton and some other AV programs, report it out no matter where the location is or what the significance is- if any.

2. There are way too many processes running. The crash could have been as simple as running out of available RAM. I'm going to have your thread moved to a different forum where you will get help finding the cause and hopefully resolution for this problem.

IF they think malware is an issue after that, you'll come back here and run the scan. So just hold for now and let me get the thread moved.
