My friend is having trouble getting a Windows update sp2 installed. It gets to the point of almost completing the installation, then it gives her a "Access Denied" message, and then uninstalls the download. I have never seen this before and am trying to figure it out. Any help out there would be appreciated much!

Is her copy legit?

If so, was it previously used on another system?
If so, does she have a new approved install code from microsoft?
You'll have to call microsoft to get it.
XP is only licensed for one computer at any time.

It is best to download the whole SP2 or get the (free) CD from M$ direct or from a friend.
XPSP2.EXE is about 260MB though!
Do not try to install SP2 via automatic updates or 'online'.

Yes, her copy is legit, her computer is a dell and only two year old, she never had trouble with the downloads before, her first update of xp no problem, only the sp2 one. Her downloads come automatically. Thanks for any help

Same Problem

My boss at work is having the same problem on his home PC. I am going to copy the service pack onto a cd and let him take that home to see if it solves the issue.
