    It's generally a rule of thumb for a company to produce a product that could be profitable but if you are already one of the wealthiest and most respected in the industry, that metric isn't always required. Case in point……

    The kindle fire was sold at a loss. It was a massive hit and I believe Google is trying to capture that market and make its money in the content it provides as well.

    Yeah, it was widely reported that the Kindle Fire was sold at a loss as Amazon hoped to make money from app/book/media sales for the device.
