I am running Vista Ultimate and Firefox 3.07, and have tried IE. I can access Yahoo and other sites but for some reason I am unable to access google from either browser also with my laptop. I am running AVG 8 have scanned my pc for viruses as well as spybot for spyware. I am attaching a hijack this log if anyone can help. It maybe on Google's end because I am also unable to ping Google

These are strange for start-up and none need to start on boot:

Running processes:
C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqtra08.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Software Update\hpwuSchd2.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqSTE08.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqbam08.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\Digital Imaging\bin\hpqgpc01.exe
Try taking all of the HP Digital Imaging processes off of the Startup menu. Reboot. Try to access Google. Do you use the Google Toolbar of just the search box?

See similar post here: https://www.techspot.com/vb/topic113903.html

EDIT: How much RAM do you have installed?

2gb RAM is minimum for Vista. Remove the HP entries from startup. The ONLY processes you need to start on boot are:
Antivirus> AVG8
Firewall> none present
Touchpad for laptop> not applicable
Network process is network program is used> not being used.

ALL others can be opened manually as needed, which includes all of the printer processes.

I have removed all HP entries on startup, restarted and still no google. I cant go to the site or use the search bar in FF. I tried IE and the same thing.. I know it is the min memory but I have been using it this way for about a year and have been able to use google. I am able to go to all other sites. New Hijack this log

If you mean you did a power cycle on the modem and or router>> disconnect power from both, wait about 10-20 seconds, then reconnect, it means the memory was full and the power cycle released the memory in modem and/or router.

There is one entry in the HijackThis log that I recommend you remove:
O13 - Gopher Prefix:

Although this is a normal, preset entry in Vista, it is still recommended it be removed.
• Run HijackThis
• Click on the System Scan Only button
• Put a check beside O13 - Gopher Prefix
• Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
• Click on the "Fix Checked" button
• When completed, close the application.

If you decide to run a full malware check, please follow this: https://www.techspot.com/community/...lware-removal-preliminary-instructions.58138/

You will run HijackThis again after Malwarebytes ans SuperAntispyware, and attach all three logs.

HijackThis log is clean. Mbam shows a registry key infection for
Registry Keys Infected: (Adware.Coupons) It was removed but this is a type of site to stay away from in the future,

Mbam also indicates a policy setting for NoActive Desktop Changes removed and I don't see any entry in HijackThis.

Make sure your Java is v6u12:
Click here to download the latest version of java ( Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.0 Update 12 ): http://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
Please install it and then reboot your computer.

Remove the older versions of Java:

1. Click Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.
2. Delete all Java updates except J2SE Runtime Environment 6.0 Update 12
Check to make sure Adobe Reader is v9 or use FoxIt
Click here to download the latest version v9: https://www.techspot.com/downloads/2083-adobe-reader-dc.html
OR
Install the FoxIt Reader: this does the same thing as Adobe, but doesn’t have the bloat: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php
When you have finished, you can remove the cleaning tools and old restore points:

Download OTCleanIt HERE & save it to your desktop.
Double click on OTCleanIt.exe.
Click on CleanUp!.
It will go thorough the list and remove all of the tools it finds and then delete itself (requiring a reboot).
You will receive a prompt that it needs to restart the computer to remove the files>
Click Yes.
It will restart your computer automatically. If it doesn't, please restart your computer manually.

Clear your existing System Restore points and establish a new clean restore point:
Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore> Select Create a restore point> OK.
* Next, go to Start > Run and type in cleanmgr
"Ensure the selection is on C:\ and click on OK"-
* Select the *More options* tab
* Choose the option to clean up System Restore and OK it.
* This will remove all restore points except the new one you just created.
Let us know if you need any more help.
