Hi, I am also receiving the same message about direct 9.0c when trying to load the Sims 2. I was attempting to delete spyware on my computer and accidentally deleted some sort of video-program in add/delete programs in the control panel. All of the displays on my computer have been weird since [i can't watch DVDs, etc]. Would anyone have any suggestions as what to download? I have an e-machines Shadow K8.
I tried installing DirectX again, and tried troubleshooting my display. On my DirectX diagnostic, it says that DirectDraw [acceleration, 3D, etc] are not available.
    Thanks so much!

You need to install DX9 from microsoft , Then install proper mobo drivers, and also latest official video drivers ,

No reason for it not to work after this point,

I'm not sure what a mobo driver is?

Looks like you have some onboard video or old cheap video card,,

Things aren't looking good for you, after you tried DX9 install and video driver install,

still not working,, then you need to buy a new card,, fifty bucks or so,

If you think that this driver is the right one, but doesn't want to install, then try starting from scratch:
-> make sure you have any onboard drivers disabled or uninstalled, either by BIOS or other means. Make sure your video cable is plugged into the correct display port.
-> Download a driver cleaning program from somewhere (i forgot where i put the link, so maybe the other guys can recommend one). Put it on a location you know how to access. If you can't get hold of one, i think you can still do it, just make sure it doesn't auto-install the old one.
-> go to Add/Remove Programs and remove all relating to display drivers (if any) and do the same with Device manager. Reboot into safe mode (hit F8 before the windows splash screen shows and select Safe mode)
-> Run the driver cleaner program, and make sure the drivers are completely off. You should be left with Window's generic VGA driver. Reboot your PC and install your nVidia drivers as per normal. See how you go.

Can you confirm that your driver is working ok with other things eg movies, other simple games, etc. or if its/its not specific to the Sims2 game you're referring to?
Any chance you can tell us what the error says?

    Alexisonfires
It could be part of the driver program for your video card - download an updated or most stable driver set for your graphics card from emachines support website.
Do you remember anything sounding familiar like ATI, nVidia, Intel etc?
Have you tried a system restore?

if the driver you wish to download for your graphics adapter is from a card, then select GPU drivers, if its integrated (like yours) then select IGP (integrated graphics processors) drivers to download.

Then step 3 is simply selecting the series for your IGP (650 series)

in order to play sims 2 which requires direct x 9.0c, you have to have a graphics card that supports 9.0c. some cards do not, they may only support say, direct x 8 or lower.

    Thank you!

I'm surprised my graphics card isn't listed on Sims 2's System Requirements but I can still play the game. :giddy:
