Guild Wars vs. World of Warcraft- What to get?

ive bought all 3 guild wars and have been playing for a total of 16 going on 17 months and its the best pc game ive ever played i could literally give u guys a 20 page essay on why its the **** but im tired right now so the essay will have to wait

guild wars is a fantastic game if u are a competitive person....there is an even playing field so to win in pvp it requires skill and intellect and creativity in how you and your fellow fighters work together.....its awesome

PvP in WoW is far more elaborate and intense than the PvP in Guild Wars.

WoW PvP:
- On PvP servers you can attack opposing faction members at any time.
- Battlegrounds allows for 40 vs 40 combat.
- Unique rewards such as weapons and armor can be purchased using honour points gained in PvP
- Honour system rewards players for killing other players "honourably"
- Same character you use everyday can be used in PvP. No need to start a Pvp only character
- combat is direction based. Some attacks require you to be behind a target. ie Rogue sneaks up behind target
- Team work is essential. A combination of each class of players makes the best team.

GW PvP:

- Have to create a PvP character that starts maxed out at level 20? What's up with that? I worked so hard building up my character and I can't use him in PvP? Who designed this game?
- Can't attack people outside of PvP instances because everyone is in their own instance! Come on, this game is multiplayer at best. No way is it a MMORPG!


Once again, if you are looking for the MMORPG experience then WoW is the best MMORPG out there.

If you are looking for an arcade style Cooperative Online Role-Playing Game (CORPG) then Guild Wars is what you want.

What do you mean you can't use your normal char for PvP? What is wrong with you? I don't think you even play GW. You probably just read reviews of it. You don't know anything about it. In WoW, when you go into a battleground, you cant have "a combination of each class." You might, but it would happen at random because you can't make your own PvP team, you just all get randomly thrown into a big arena. GW is the game where you have to build a team and make your classes and skills work together, not WoW.

Like I said before, try posting other places on TS than just this one thread. Try to make yourself at least somewhat useful.

Now, now, play nice gurus! I've played both quite a bit (I've got a 60 mage on WoW and a 15/16 Ranger/Monk on Guild Wars) and to be honest, Guild Wars isn't particularly "superior", and neither is WoW. They're both in entirely different worlds.

World of WarCrack is for hardcore gamers, end of story. You play all day every day and look at the clock and a week has gone by. It's a very in-depth, beautiful world and your character "tweaks" can be very time consuming.

Guild Wars is definitely geared to the casual gamer. The world keeps on spinnin' if you're not on there every day, and you can come back after a week of being busy and know exactly where you stand. "Tweaking" your character isn't a separate profession in reality, which I like a lot! I can custom build my skills at any time based on whatever situation I get into.

I guess it all depends on the type of gamer you are. If you like to get on every once in a while and hack out some baddies and run some quests, Guild Wars is definitely right for you. If you want an all-encompassing game experience that will take up a large chunk of relaxation time, get WoW. Both are perfectly good at what they do.

WoW Ruins Live's

WoW is a very addicting hobby that should be ranked up there with coccaine and $2 hookers.

You know what really sucks, my buddies used to be big FPS guys just like me. And there is nothing I like better than a good FPS game. But anyways they all get hooked on the WoW garbage. So yeah, Over 2 years go by, dorks are still playing WoW.....Wont even try any new games......"Hey guys I just got F.E.A.R its nuts, lets have a LAN this weekend"

Well we had the LAN and we played F.E.A.R for about 20 minutes before they had to get their fix with 20 HOURS !!! of WoW.

Now when I go to the LAN its basically a time to get drunk and catch up on some good techspot reads.

These guys used to care about their computers too, they always tried to keep up with the newest hardware. Newer video card, newer case more RAM ect ect.....Now its like "If it runs WoW its good enough"

One of my friends sold his 7900GTX that he got for his birthday in July to buy WoW airtime time cause "He just didnt need that kinda power to play WoW" (mainly he needed money to buy WoW time cause he lost his job and is now mooching off his g/f so he can sit on his *** and play wow all day)

After watching that South Park episode (wich IS PRETTY CLOSE TO THE TRUTH) and seeing what a lot of other have to say I must say I detest WoW and that it ruins relationships and friendships.....

When I asked a friend to go fishing (wich he had never refused before) and he says "Alright I'll go but I have to be back for an instance by 6" then you know he has a problem.

Ouch, that's pretty sad. That's mostly why I quit WoW. I loved it. I loved it so much I was spending 12 hours a day playing it. Twelve hours a day that could have been spent marketing, doing research, and digital processing for my digital art studio business. My profits went from around $1,000-$1,500 a month to around $200 simply because I was playing WoW constantly.

Guild Wars is much better for me -- I can work for a week, then take a weekend to crank out some quests.

Alright everyone I own both games. I have been playing both for sometime and BOTH of them are great in there own way.

I play WoW primarily, because its more time consuming and I like to interact with alot of people where ever I go. Yes WoW consumes your life usually, but not always. When I get sick of WoW or just wanna be by myself I play GW. GW is also a great game. You cannot compare the games because everyone is different and im just tired of the big babies that just play wow or gw and say the other one sucks. Yes GW is a lil superior in certain ways such as 2 pros and can rearrange your char attribute points at anytime. but WoW has it great if you want a long game that never ends with endless fun unlike GW where you can beat the game. WoW has a higher lvl cap which i personally think is great lvl 70 NOW! and Guildwars only lvl 20 but the thing is yes guild wars is more fair because no one is superior to another only lvl 20 thats it your done and its so fast to lvl to that lvl my first char was a ele/mes and i got to 20 in 2 weeks. Wow I have 1 60 warlock and a 46 rogue. and it takes alot of time and after you hit 60 or 70 now the game becomes more social cuz there is so much more to do. Guildwars i have 4 20s. and you can get smart npcs as your buddies to help and if you buy nightfall you get certain heroes that lvl with you and you gear yourself which gives this game a plus. Dont listen to the people that say that one is superior to the other cuz it all depends on you and how you feel about a GIANT COMMUNTIY and seeing people everywhere or if u like to do some solo work like its a offline game.


IN CONCLUSION:::

NEITHER IS GREATER THAN THE OTHER IT DEPENDS ON YOU AND HOW YOU FEEL!

O and the farming on GWS is ridiculous a Earth ele/ monk or mes can clear a whole area of things higher lvl then them with out even worrying about dieing and in WoW you cannot take that many things as easy WoW is a lil more realilistic if you think about the grinding process

this is my first post here and i pretty much made the account for this thread...but i will be more active in future...

rexmundi...you DONT play guild wars....honestly...you cant make a point by saying guild wars hasnt got elements which are really ITS MAIN FEATURES....

1) you DONT need to make a pvp character to play PvP...yes its possible but not compulsary...

2) the world itself isnt linear...its just like the real world...of course there are paths!!!!...you can just run through a bunch of close trees or swim across an ocean DUH!!!

3) travisbalog... you dont play it either!!!...if an ele/mes ran into a bunch of mobs higher lvl than it id get flattened!!!...sure he does high damage but eles are weak as!!!...there are traits to each player!!!

look...there are no "cons" to guild wars...it has restrictions because thats the way it's made...its fun WITH them... its much less time consuming and more down to earth...i cannot speak for WoW but every time a friend of mine gets it i barely ever hear from them...

Well, I have both WoW and Guild Wars. I think WoW is far superior, but has a $15 a month fee. Also, the only new content in Guild Wars is the expansions, which are about $40-50 per. Plus, Guild Wars is pretty much PvP only, PvE is boring and not worth it. WoW has fun PvP and PvE. It's all a matter of personal opinion though.

secondly...you mustnt play guild wars much becuase a solo ele cant do much for long...he'd need battery necro, healer or warrior to take the damage
