Help my new videocard fan is driving me insane

hi i just recieved my video card today and i cant get the fan speed down
i want to turn it down because the noise is bad its louder than any other fan inmy computer and its rather annoying if you guys can help me id love it ive tried using riva tuner to change the speed and it isnt working
im using a xfx geforce 8600 gt pcie 512mb


any help is appreciated

or just look at the other cooling options for video cards

on like new egg or some thing

just look up iceberq i put one on my bfg 5500 fx a long while ago

it worked like a charm and it wasnt noisy unless u had the pc open all the time

try thoes if not look at other solutions on the net

try searching "video card cooling" or something like that in google your bound to find something

Anyway, OP, are you sure the thing isn't overheating? Check the tempuratures.

If the GPU (Graphics Prosessing Unit) is covered by some sort of heatsink, by all means disconnect the noisy fan and run the system for a while, keeping an eye on the temps

surely it depends on the heatsink? In my opinion it's asking for trouble but it's your decision OP.

you can try putting some thermal paste on the gpu's die. That lowered my gpu temps by 10 degrees celcius. hopefully if your gpu runs cooler, then it will slow down the fan itself.

if your gonna put thermal paste on it id recommend using like something

like arctic silver

then put the heat sink back on

If the card is brand new, you might consider returning it for an exchange under warranty. Keep in mind if you take it apart to apply new thermal compound, you could void the warranty.
