HI i am new to this site and hope that you can help me. i am unable to access paypal or amazon either by firefox or internet explorer. i used to be able to but for the past few months i cant access either. this is the message i keep getting

Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at www.amazon

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I am new to all this computer and use it for my family genealogy o if anyone has any ideas please put them down as if you are talking to an ***** - please !!

i have read the posting on here from nov 2005 by rick but had no luck i fell at the first hurdle - the part where he asks to delete any lines after 127.0.01 - well there are no lines after that - so where do i go from here.
any help or advice would be great
thanks linda x

Hi linda

Is it just those 2 sites you cant access.?

Do this

Click Start > Run > cmd > Enter

In the black box type the following

ping www.paypal.co.uk and press enter, you should get the following reply.

Pinging www.paypal.co.uk [216.113.188.43] with 32 bytes of data:

Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.
Request timed out.

Ping statistics for 216.113.188.43:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 0, Lost = 4 (100% loss),

This means that you can reach the site OK, the ping fails because the site denies ping replies, but it will show that your computer can find the site.

now in the same box enter the following command

Tracert www.paypal.co.uk and press enter.

Copy the results into your next post.

To copy from a dos box, right click the border and choose edit and mark , now hold down the left click of the mouse and drag it over the text in the box ( you may need to maximise it to get it all in) once highlighted press enter.

Regards

Hi

Funny enough mine stopped tracing at the same point to, but I can reach the site OK, so i'll pass on this one to someone else as I cant think why you cant reach the site.

I take it that if you try in IE it just shows "page not displayed" error.

Regards
