good afternoon

hello dan, lookinound. im running trend micros online test(full scan). this will probably take a while.

they never responded to me. that is why i dont go to that site anymore. I posted twice there and got no response. Please dont just drop me like this. i will edit my thread at the site and remove it

omg

after 3 hours it had to shutdown due to internet explorer problem, right before it was gonna end. It did manage to find 1 virus, something in AIM WxBug.EXE. ill have to run this again to give you exact details, see ya in 3 hours : (

.

i do have an empty weather bug folder. Same virus showed up second time i ran bitdefender before it crashed. 1 virus, 2 infected files. i have no log report to show you though... trying it again with a modified scan. IM only scanning the infected areas of my computer

no luck

bit defender wont give me a log file due to its problem. But im confident in saying that virus was the onlyu one left. bit defender wasnt able to completely delete it so that is why it remains. gonna try trend micro again, with modified scanning. HouseCall did not find any potential threats on your computer. ALthought the other program did in the form of AIM WxBug.EXE.

My AV scan was negative

Nothing to report, only 2 potentially unwanted programs that i installed after the malware. Combofix and SDFix

Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

Please re-open HiJackThis and scan.**Check the boxes next to all the entries listed below.

O21 - SSODL: DbWin - {176E9D0A-08AE-BE8B-6452-08C42104380C} - C:\Program Files\sxchpsb\DbWin.dll

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked.**Close HiJackThis.**Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these folders (if present):

C:\Program Files\sxchpsb

After that, Reboot, and post a new HijackThis log here in a reply

HI dan, gotta get some shut eye. thank you for you help, will check back a lil later. have a good night. looks like we got rid of viewpoint. my internet is running slow... hopefully this is my isp and not some new virus

If i can offer some additional info/background on a couple things

Viewpoint
Viewpoint products can be a pain in the a** to remove. There's been a long running debate online as to whether or not it's actually spyware. And maybe they cleaned it up since the product first appeared years ago. But my own feeling on the topic is: I care less about the spyware debate then the fact "I didn't install it. I don't want it". (Tho i'll also say that seeing as how it first showed up years ago as part of AOL's download makes me uneasy about it.)
  • Viewpoint Service can be harder to to remove because you may have a problem stopping the service once it's running. The easy work around is to change its status to DISABLE rather then STOP then reboot. After reboot it will remain DISABLED
    • You can now delete the service without problem. However,
    • Viewpoint is typically reinstalled by certain AOL and Adobe products (and others as well, i'm sure). If it appears that Viewpoint keeps "coming back" change its status to DISABLED but don't delete it. It will remain disabled. AOL and Adobe won't change its status nor reinstall if it's there and DISABLED.

Internet Speed
If you;re wondering about your ISP's internet speed at the moment it's easy to test. (you'll often find it will vary.. sometimes being slower at peek hours if they have too many users for the server/hardware network they are offering). Try www.speedtest.net. Start by selecting a test site (the triangles you see displayed) geographically close to you. Then just let it run as it determines your current upload and download speeds.
