Wow that was a lot of information. But I don't see anywhere the drivers you are using. Those were giving you the most problems, correct? And is there a certain STOP error message you see? You can also check your Event Viewer for any errors that might have occured.

Hi there
I am really not sure where to find my drivers other than the device manager!
For some reason my hard drive just clicks and then I get a blue screen telling me I may have a problem with a newly installed driver, tells me it's doing a phycial dump and just hangs, I reboot and I then get my hard drive booting and shutting down with the message realtek rtl8110s 181698 gig ethinc control, v1.01 030820 pxee61 media test fail or something on those lines. I reboot and press del for setup and the BIOS does not recognise that I have a hard disk. When I go to advanced BIOS features, boot device select 1st boot is floppy, 2nd boot is disabled and 3rd boot is my network adapter. My pc is not networked.
I had these problems before and ran nortons registry sweep and I had a missing mscoree.dll. I downloaded and it was okay until I plugged my camcorder in to download. The whole process just repeated. When this was happening before I downloaded mscoree.dll I belived it to be some Magix software, and a driver conflict so I unistalled it.
The only way I can boot my pc is to move the jumpers, it's a nightmare and I have not got a clue what to do.

Yes and the only option I then got was to boot from floppy because It could not find my hard drive

I'd try entering the hard disc parameters in the bios screen and see if this forces it to be recognised.

Boots

First you need to know the parameters. They may be on the disc, but most likely you will have to look on the manufacture's web site. Having got these you enter the bios setup. As you start up after the post it will say (for about 2 seconds) press Del, F1 or Tab. On the first screen tab to move from parameter to parameter and fill in your figures. Then save & exit. Maybe now it will be recognised.

Boots

hey i ahve the same problem like i have no idea whats causing my crashes..it only happens when im playing like 3D games...would it be safe to say its my graphics card....if yes any idea on how to fix it..its the worst problem in the world so frustrating.

thanks heaps.

Place the Jumper in it's proper position for your HDD(Master)
Go back to your Bios Setup;
Change the 2nd Boot item to your HDD(Maxtor 6y160P0)
Change the 3rd Boot item to your CD rom
(You can change this order anytime ,Start here for Simplicity, BUT always use these 3 items only)
Save and Exit BIOS to Reboot
If you can boot to your O/S look in System Management >System and Application Event Logs
Look for Red or yellow errors and Mark down the File names that are listed.
Also If you get a BSOD carefully read the error for any file name mentioned and mark them down ,Keep in mind to remember what you where running when you get the BSOD
Post back when you make some advance on all/any of this.

I've been having the same problem, for quite a while now, the one with the computer just restarting, and then, when i set it right, freezing to a blue screen. On the PC I'm running XP Pro, with SP2.

It doesn't give me the name of any file that might have a problem, and when I restart and report the error to windows it always tells me that there's some driver-related problem..

On the bluescreen it always gives me some long codes.. I wrote down two of them, does anybody possibly know what they refer to? (they always differ)

STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x80543669, 0xB982E7C0, 0x00000000)

or

STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, ox4D8D5700, 0xB966EBBO, 0x00000000)

?

Any clues would be most welcome, thanks!

If you'd get a blue screen from this error (Blue Screen of Death), it should tell the driver's file name, unless you've set the computer to boot automatically so that you don't have time to read it.

Hi. How do I set the computer to not boot automatically so that i can get the bsod?

A question. Did you solve your problem?

If you didn't, then maybe you should check or change your harddisk as you said this freezing up or bleu screen starts with a click of your harddrive. Does your hardrive work when you boot? An easy way to find out is to simple hold it in your hands when you boot and try to feel it. If it doesnt vibrate just a little you can be asure that it is shot. Most bleuscreens come from harddisk problems. Never forget when you handle harfware you sjould always unload yourself of static electricity. This is a mjor cause of hdd damage.
