How do I watch recovered files?

    I have a applian media file (.mov) that I used a recovery program to find. Now, my files that I needed were over mapped and deleted as "Lostfiles_" So. My question is; how do I watch these recovered files. Or view them as a sampler. I have tried nearly every converter and it brings up an "Error- 2048 couldn't open file Lost file_00000.mov because its not a file quick time understands." I have looked up error code break downs but I don't know where to go from there.
