does going from 4Gb's of 800MHz Ram, to 2 Gb's of 1066 on a 32 bit machine make much difference, bearing in mind that while the ram is less the motherboard will be better

could rage comment on this please, or anybody

@saint19, go with an E8400 and either the P5Q Pro or the GA-EP45-UD3P. I'd also advise going with a Corsair 650TX instead of that Thermaltake PSU. Lastly, change the card to an HD 4870 512MB\1GB

@gabrielhobro, replace the Q6600 with an E8400, get an HD 4870 1GB and this cooler instead. Everything else is fine.

I just have a query about the processor because woudn't it be faster with four core overclocked to 3.4 than 2 at 4+

or he could try the AMD cpu equivalent
  8. Rage_3K_Moiz Sith Lord Posts: 7,245   +16

No. More cores doesn't mean better performance, gaming-wise.

how good are these Phenom II Processors, what i mean is what is the difference between them and the original oheoms
  10. Rage_3K_Moiz Sith Lord Posts: 7,245   +16

The Phenom II CPUs are 45nm chips, have more cache, higher clock speeds and better OCing potential when compared to the original Phenom chips. They're able to match the performance of the Core 2 Quad 45nm CPUs as well.

lol, there is no amd equivalent
  12. omegafate Newcomer, in training Posts: 117

well if your comparing it to the i7 no there ist

    yet

The E8400 has no AMD equivalent. The only CPUs that do are the Core 2 Quad 45nm CPUs. So I don't know what you're talking about either.

just a query, Rage. I am finally building it but the PSU (Corsair TX) has a huge fan on its side. But is it usual for the fan to be inside the computer, because i cant face it out. As there is not whole in the roof of my Chassis
  15. LinkedKube TechSpot Project Baby Posts: 4,180   +23

well some people use the fan on the psu to get air out of their case, depending on the psu placement, its normal for psu's to have fans, they pretty much have to unless they are lower power. you should have the fan facing down iin your case, its not extremely abnormal.
  16. Rage_3K_Moiz Sith Lord Posts: 7,245   +16

The fan is supposed to be downward in your case, don't worry about that.

I made the computer and can play crysis on high (Anti-Aliasing x8), but cant play very high as i have XP. does anyone no how to overclock the Q6600, this is with the stock cooler. As someone saidd that it did just as good as the Tuniq Tower
  18. Rage_3K_Moiz Sith Lord Posts: 7,245   +16

I don't recommend the stock cooler for any OCed quad-core CPU. You are just asking for trouble IMO. Great coolers like the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 and Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro are available for <$40 and provide excellent performance. In fact, the Xigmatek can match the performance of the more expensive TRUE.

As for Crysis, there is a simple hack available to enable Very High detail options on XP. Google for it.

The video card is impressive !

kk first off listen to rage =]

i made a mistake and bought a q6600, this thing runs pretty dam hot, your stock cooler won't be able to handle it

and secondly, the new q6600s won't get you very far, as most of them has a VID of 1.325

i tried pretty hard and the most the i could get stable was at 3.2ghz

anymore than 3.2ghz, i had to raise my vcore up to 1.5v for lets say... 3.4ghz, but in the end it still wasnt stable

    so i'd say get an e8400 =]
