HP / Dell / etc. laptop password help thread

yeah the paper clip trick works but why tear apart the case when all you have to do is boot to the DSTCD and reset the service tag through dos, thus resetting all passwords in the bios setup. When I say bios passwords I mean the supervisor and user level passwords, not the HDD password.

I have not heard of anyone who has a bios password on the laptop that is able to boot beyond the screen. Also by default the USB and other devices are at the bottom of the boot order so I don't see how it would work if the first boot device is bootable but not accessable. Please give insight if you have any.

The only way this is possible. Is if the boot priority had CD first already configured in Bios settings
Since about 2000 onwards, all (most) Bios settings have been set for CD as first boot option
All free options should be tried first :grinthumb

Ok consider me illeterate when it comes to computers.
I have a Dell Lattitude cpi d266xt. I have tryed everything on this forum to remove all passwords.I got rid of all but 2.It has windows nt and the password is unknown to me.The other password is to unlock the bios,its the administrator password.
This computer was found in a trash dump.
Here is what I have on it.
The Dell lbl p/n 2617p
mod#ppl
dp/n 0009321c-12800-94q-2068
Another tag has wf37j
What I am trying to do is switch the main boot to the cd and format the hard drive to install windows 98.
Can this be done? If so any help would be great..

Intro with a request to reopen a closed thread

I am new to posting here and am interested in gaining more knowledge about computers. i am in a fix that only the gurus here seem to be able to help me with. after searching the postings and google results as instructed by the moderators here have said to do, i am still unable to overcome my problem. if one of the greats would be so kind as to grant me an audience for a hash code for the nx9010. I have searched and am unable to make headway due to my level of ignorance. I have worked very hard to adhere to the decision of the moderators, however, with out some direct aid, i am lost. the hash code is 00202. i have searched, and yet, I have been unable to find a solution. Please, forgive me for asking for an answer that has been closed. i await a response with hope, humility and respect. to the gods of techspot, I ask of you to please have a bit of sympathy for your humble minion and reveal to me the how to and/or means, if not the answer, for acquiring the solution for the hash code above.
