iMacs suck

I agree 100% with acidosmosis, MACs don't deserve to see the light of day.

40MB if stripped, 160MB or so if you keep every driver in the package.

And I've heard of it going down to 27MB....

macs suck, SGI's not great, PCs = #1

To the person that was talking about how lots of companys use Silicon Graphics systems these days well, that is not really true. Back in the day they were more powerful for graphics but these days it just isnt true because a regular old new PC can hack away at some graphics with ease. Also, I was a computer animation major (although that isn't what I'm doing at the moment) in college at the Academy of Design in Tampa Florida. (note the avatar under my name, that is a picture of me on one of the machines at the school that is on the paper and website brochure woot lol.. I am actually on an SGI system in that picture. Those machines were cool just cuz they all had badass LCD screens hehe). Some of the machines were Mac's, some were SGI's, and others were regular PC's.

The fact is the Silicon Graphics systems I used had more hardware in them then my old computer. They had I believe 512-1gig of RAM and ran at like 1ghz (this was about 2-2 1/2 years ago) and my 900mhz, with 64megs of ram and NO 3D card.. just plain BLEW those machines out of the water when running 3D Studio Max. If that isn't sad I dont know what is. Shows you that SGI's just aren't in their prime anymore.

As far MAC's I also used those in college and it was just a NIGHTMARE for me AND everyone else. We had SO many problems with mac's when we were trying to "film" our hand drawn animations. One guy actually go so pissed one day when I was filming my animation, that he got up and started screaming and cussing walked outside throwing things etc. Later on abotu 30 minutes later I was taking a break and he came into the break room, threw his bookbag clear across the room and sat down and I believe he threw a chair across the room. Obviously staff wasn't very happy ;-).

The PC's .. well .. no one had problems with them at all.

I'd just like to say that I've never used an iMac, but they do look gorgeous. I find Windows PCs user friendly and intuitive, so I have no desire to buy an iMac. Long Live Microsoft. :blush:

I have only purchased one apple product and I regret it every day of my life. The much hyped 5th gen video ipod, which was supposed to be able to play my music, videos and photos. It not only refuses to convert many of my PURCHASED cds, it loves to load exact duplicates 3 and 4 times when there is only one copy on my pc. I have gone through every song and dance to work with the stupid thing only to experience constant freezing and ****ty battery life. How convenient it started right after the warranty expired! I will be getting rid of the sh*tpod soon, and never making the same mistake again. As for apple in general, no one should claim they can't do anything. The fact is though that you can easily get a higher quality PC for less money than a mac which is used in less places. If you want a more user friendly experience, I don't suggest forcing yourself to learn 2 operating systems, because if you buy a Mac, you WILL still have to use windows at some point

iPods don't do any converting by the way, are you sure you were using it right?

How is learning 2 operating systems a bad thing? Doesn't that mean I'm more employable in the workplace? You might be able to get a PC of the SAME quality but not with the same level of intergration between hardware and software.

Yes...I realise ipods don't convert anything, I wrongfully presumed you would know I meant itunes (since they go hand in hand). Learning 2 operating systems is a bad thing for people who don't like computers in general and for me because I never see them used in workplaces where I live so learning to work them is needless extra work. I don't care how old the thread is, it's not closed and obviously people will still find my posts. If you need data just go to a mac and a good pc site. Also if you look at other posts you will notice comments about mac in general, so I chose not to go to another thread.

Well, I didn't provide links simply because I feel one example doesn't prove it, and honestly I don't have the time to provide what I would feel would. Also there is the time issue. The deal i find may end in a month, making that example worthless to someone seeing this thread then. Also I feel my opinion is general enough that readers should want to find specific examples for themselves.

worse still is many of these comments are opinions for people who
have never owned any version of Machintosh. Spending 10 minutes on a Mac with
the sole experience as a PC user will take some adjustment -- clearly too much for some.

There are others on the flip side of the thread with their experiecnes;
eg: PC is too confusing and a triple button mouse is fearful -- which button when?

This forum is clearly and openly PC biased and that's ok -- it serves it's purpose well.
Anyone seeking Mac assistence or advise would be better served looking elsewhere.

The iMac is a delight -- unless you intend to open it and mess with the hardware
(which by the way is a fundamental difference 'twix Mac and PC users).

Personally, I'm agnostic (eg: no preference) on hardware and OS.
I run a Linux 7 server, the wife uses our Mac OS X 10.3.9 and the laptop is (sigh) an Intel PC XP/Pro.
FYI: I do ten times the amount of admin on the laptop and 2 times on the Linux
as compaired to the Admin on the Mac.

Last thought: The applications that run on the system are >> than the OS itself.
IMO, time spent fussing with the OS is time lost to do productive work.

In my opinion time doesn't matter for my argument, just for the specific examples which you want me to provide. I feel my opinion has held true and will continue to do so

market to a high volume, low margin market segment, so they SOLD their code
to B. Gates -- the DOS version.

Mr Gates and Steve Jobs went to Xerox PARC to see a presentation of a
system with a W.I.M.P interface (Windows, with an Indicator Mouse Pointer).

Jobs had the epiphany and created the Lesia model from which the Macintosh series was developed.

Gates quickly saw that the GUI was far superior to the DOS he was selling and developed Windows 3.0
