Avg or microsoft essentials? I got a very very old computer i'm working on with very little storage so i only wanted 1. Years ago before microsoft essentials i always put Avg on computers now ,i'm wondering which would be best if you could only pick 1?

I would personally go with MSE these days. I've been moving my machines over to MSE during the last year or so. It's pretty light weight and does a decent job finding baddies.

There is not such thing as the best AV program.

Might be better if a discussion like this would have been posted in the

    Software & Apps: http://www.techspot.com/vb/menu17.html
    or
    Windows OS: http://www.techspot.com/vb/menu15.html

    or best of all:

Using the search term best AV? in TechSpot search brings up 2,030 hits for this often asked question.
    http://www.techspot.com/search-x.ph...=FORID:10&ie=ISO-8859-1&q=best antivirus?&sa=

And it always ends up with the same answers:
    There is no ]b]best[/b] AV.
Of the two asked about, I no longer recommend using AVG.
And for any computer, old or new, the AV is only part of the security- you need layered security:
    One antivirus
    One firewall (preferably bi-directional.
    Two or more antimalware programs
