Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection upgrade issues

You definitely have the ASUS V16.5 package installed. V17 is very most likely a newer version since it's posted on the site as a LAN driver for your board. I can look closer at that V17 package as well to confirm/tell you more but I will likely be unavailable a few days, so hang tight and I'll let you know when I can get back at ya

p.s. That NVM update is an Intel fix for the driver. I happened to read about it when I was googling the other day

Many many years ago, my dad told me...."beggars can't be choosers"
So I appreciate the help, whenever you can get to it.
THANKS!

It is interesting that you cannot install the latest 18.1 driver from Intel despite having version 16.5 from ASUS

Here's what I can tell ya:
  1. The ASUS Intel LAN 17.3.0.0 driver package is an upgrade for Intel Gigabit on your mobo.
  2. It installs Intel Gigabit driver v12.2.45.0, dated 08/10/2012
  3. Be sure to install the NVM utility first. (This fixes a bug where the chip may "misidentify" its 82579 model number during the upgrade.)
  4. So when 17.3 upgrade complete also see the device is still labeled as an Intel(R) 82579V
/* EDIT */
Oh. And you probably already know, to install download the zip, extrat files to a folder on your Desktop, run AsusSetup.exe.

LookinAround:
Thanks for the info...I'll see if that driver upgrades the current on without having to uninstall the old one first.
I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks

Well guys...I guess it isn't meant to be.
I just tried the Asus latest Intel version and it gave the same error "The installed version of Intel Proset is not supported for upgrades. You must uninstall it before installing this version".
So I guess I will just have to leave well enough alone.
Thanks for your help anyway.

I dont really know what improvements they make from revision to revision. But I think there may be big improvements from 11 (your driver) to the latest 18.1. Or they may just be bug fixes.

UPDATE
I contacted ASUS Tech Support. I discussed the update issue and they walked me through how to properly update the LAN. The tech support said NOT to try to update the driver from the executable that is downloaded from their site (as it says to do). Instead he had me open Device Mgr and right click on the Intel LAN device and choose Update Driver Software. I did that and BINGO...the driver updated without a problem!
Thanks guys for your assistance. All is well once again.

No, as I said...I used Device Mgr and did the update by pointing to the exe on my desktop and let Device Mgr update it. I didn't click on the downloaded exe file myself as I had been doing.
