inter actual player won't play

i just installed win xp pro and when i try to play a dvd it tells me playback failed due to a problem with the video subsystem. try lowering your screen res. or color depth may fix problem.
specs:amd athlon xp 1.25
biostar m7viwd mobo
512 ram by infinion
geforce mx400 video card
cd-rw
dvd drive
inter actual player
gateway monitor
30 gig wd hdd

do you have the latest drivers and codecs? try downlaoding them. also, did you try lowering and changing settings, etc? maybe you could try playing the dvd with another program, like winamp or windows media player or divX.
