Morning...I thought I saw the issue in the logs, however, I think we will take a closer look at a few key areas of the operating system to find out why it is freezing. A couple of other tools to run here to provide a lot more information

    Speccy hardware checking

Please download Speccy and save to your Desktop.
    • Double-click on setup file and install Speccy on your computer.
    • Start Speccy and give it 30 seconds to 1 minute to load.
    • Then, click File > Save as Text file...
    • Save the report to your Desktop or other location you can remember.
    • Find the report and attach it to your next reply.
    Kaspersky GetSystemInfo Scan

Please download the latest version of Kaspersky GetSystemInfo (GSI) from Kaspersky and save it to your Desktop.

Note: please close all other applications running on your system.

Double click GetSystemInfo.exe to open it. It will display an agreement. Click on I Agree to continue.

    Click the Settings button.[IMG]

    Set the slider to Maximum.

IMPORTANT! Then, click Customize - choose Driver / Ports tab and uncheck Scan Ports.

On the General tab, make sure all of the boxes are checked.

On the Misc tab, make sure all the checkboxes are checked.

Then, click OK on the windows that you launched.

Click Create Report to run it.

    It will begin scanning.

It will create a zip folder called GetSystemInfo_XXXXXXXXXXXXXX.zip on your Desktop.

It should automatically upload it to http://www.getsysteminfo.com. If it does not, then please submit it manually by going to the site and doing the upload process.

It will redirect to a page, where it will provide a sharing URL for specialists. Copy and paste the url of the GSI Parser report in your next reply.

When was the last time CPU cooling change (Arctic Silver/thermal paste) was done?
  10. familyman14 TechSpot Enthusiast Posts: 179

As far as I know never. It is fairly new. Was purchased in August. Had to have the hard drive replaced in November by geek squad/best buy. It was still under warrenty. Does CPU cooling fail on new computers? If not do you think the store should cover it for going so soon like the hard drive?
  11. Jay Pfoutz Malware Helper Posts: 4,286   +49

It's just the CPU is heating up a bit much, 60 degrees celsius, which is just above average. It's not too hot, but sometimes the manufacturer, especially with quad-core processors, commonly don't put enough thermal paste on the processor. In result, it causes it to heat up a lot more.

The only other thing to check, before I make that diagnosis, is to look at the background of the operating system...

    SVCHOST.exe diagnostics

Download and run my SVCHOST Diag tool, please.

Post the log from it when it launches.

Also, download and run this tool: http://www.tweaking.com/content/page/tweaking_com_svchost_exe_lookup_tool.html

I uninstalled avira and kept avast. However, I only DL'ed avast after the freezing started because when my kid told me about it I tried running avira and a msg stated that it expired.
    The computer is still freezing.
I am leaving for nite shift work will check back in the morning.

What are some of the activities that the computer is used for?

Explain some in depth about the use of the PC. Also, when you bought it. What it started acting like when it began freezing..including any sounds, graphics changes, etc.
  18. familyman14 TechSpot Enthusiast Posts: 179

Mostly used for game play ( Steam ), youtube and sites like Deviant art. When purchased it was fast had no issues. Then the hard drive fried and was replaced and was fine until we had a power outage due to winter storm and after is when the freezing started.

That's clearance for me to return it and tell them about the issue. If it's under warranty, you may be covered.
