Will do. It is the PC my eleven year old uses. I think he went to some game sight at Yahoo and that started all of the problems. He is using it now. He was trying to log onto MW3 multiplayer but it would not access any of the servers. His older brothers told him to delete and reload the files from Steam which apparently will take somewhere between 8 and 15 hours! Not sure how Steam is an improvement to having a disk in-hand. So, I guess it will be tied up for awhile.

Thank you for your help. I will, in the not too distant future, give you an update and visit your site.

Broni,

IE is still launching itself. On the screen now is a caution message that reads "Close programs to prevent information loss. Your computer is low on memory. Save your files and close other programs." I don't know what this means but I opened up the Task Manager and looking at CPU usage it rocks along at about 2% and then will jump to 40% to 70% to 100% before falling back to 1 or 2%. The usage history looks like a patient suffering a heart attack. Processes jumps from 51 to 54 but nothing is open on the desktop. I used the Task Manager to close IE yet it still appears to be running in the background (I say that because the "Memory(Private Working Set)" is flucuating).

Is wiping the harddrive the best thing to do?

Possibly you got reinfected.

Download TDSSKiller and save it to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on TDSSKiller.exe to run the application, then on Start Scan.
  • If an infected file is detected, the default action will be Cure, click on Continue.
  • If a suspicious file is detected, the default action will be Skip, click on Continue.
  • It may ask you to reboot the computer to complete the process. Click on Reboot Now.
  • If no reboot is require, click on Report. A log file should appear. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
  • If a reboot is required, the report can also be found in your root directory (usually C:\ folder) in the form of TDSSKiller_xxxx_log.txt. Please copy and paste the contents of that file here.
