Man pays $200,000 to save fake girlfriend in online scam

I feel really sorry for that man . $200k is a lot of money gone for nothing .
We should always Remember that all other internet users are strangers. You do not know who you are chatting with.

Poor sod...Obviously not everybody knows that if the word 'Nigeria' comes into the fray, it's an out right scam.

He had his trousers taken down alright...Although not for the reasons he probably wanted.

Let's Do the Math Together, Shall We........?

If he wanted to blow away all his money, I think he could have been better off spending it with 'girls' from a certain 'adult entertainment' magazine house (I am sure all of you remembered that scam which came out couple of years ago) instead on some guy pretending to be a woman. At least he would have gotten his money's worth in someway. ;)

Edit:
Captain has hit on the same point, but I took into account the sum involved and accordingly adjusted the standard of 'escorts'.
Hey look, I never said they would be willing to wash, (or brush their teeth), for a ten buck bag of crack. That said, 1 out of 6 probably is HIV positive. So, it's like playing Russian Roulette with crack w*****s. "Take a walk on the wild side". (Lou Reed).

In any event, there's usually, "washy waxy" available at a China Town near you!

For a step up, consider a high class escort @ a thousand bucks a pop. If you a least have some impluse control, and can limit your "outings" to say, once a month, then 200K would last 200 months, or almost 17 years.
The guy has probably been bald, over weight, and a social cripple all his life. The pic's that were sent to him must have made him feel very special,I can see how someone this emotionally and socially stunted got burned.
First sensible comment of the day. It's not stupidity, it's a socially inexperienced introvert letting his despair take hold of him. IQ comes into play, but that is not the main point.
You call, "sensible comment", that which I call, "stating the obvious". After which, these, "socially inexperienced introverts" , like to bask in the attention and "pity" of the local news. (But I already said that, I suppose it was overlooked).

As far as the potential for "true love", (at least in the segment of our, "male dominated society" I'm familiar with), what I see is morbidly obese women being serviced by "drones" for their social security checks. (While they sell crack out the front door). Your tax dollars pay for the free ambulance rides, the power chairs, home nursing visits, type 2 diabetes treatments, ad nauseum. In the old days the tribe would leave the useless and non productive behind to feed the wolves. Forgive me, I wax nostalgic.

Yeah, and while we're on the subject, if these social misfits only companionship outlet is the internet, then they should hitch their wagon to something real, like "Techspot".

In summation, captaincrankfuscious say, "to think with one's tool, is to become that tool".

While I do understand the harsh criticism given here, I find it to be a little premature with the information given. I would hope this guy didn't just fall victim to the stereotypical Nigerian scam we all see so often, and would imagine it being a more sophisticated scam given the time spent and money taken. Whoever scammed him may have spent a considerable amount of time working him, but that would seem strange as scammers tend to move on if nothing develops.

It wouldn't surprise me if the man was socially awkward & inexperienced and likely emotionally manipulated. I do feel bad for him and anyone in these situations as the world can be a cruel place, but at some point you have to be a realist and if the situation seems dubious it likely is.

One thing I haven't seen anyone post but what happened that the scammer became missing? Seems the scammer messed up and ended the scam sooner than he/she could have.

It seems typically this kinds of stories come out after a family member finally gets through to them or the police or FBI become involved from information they find out about the scam. I don't remember reading about a case where the person getting scammed went to the cops for help finding his/her scammer.

Wow, that poor bastid. Yeah, he obviously has some mental/social issues. Probably one of those AOL users too that's on Highspeed internet but still paying for dial up service in addition. Someone should put together an awareness campaign for old people. Advertise on Murder She wrote reruns, or 60 minutes.

Sounds like what my brother would do. He paid child support for 16 years with the first marriage, and guess what? Divorce again. Another 14 years of child support! Give 'em up for adoption I say.

I am writing an essay about the need for social acceptance as I logged on to read this >.<. I'm going to cite this and use it in my essay.

But I would much rather spend that $200k on 40,000 $50 *****s...that or a computer that can play crysis.

That's hilarious, but it would only buy you 4,000 $50 *****s. 40,000 would cost you $2M.

bah, my mental math skills have been lacking lately. Do you think it would cost 2m to build a computer that can play crysis?

I just hope he doesn't have any offspring (from a real relationship :) ) to pass his genes on too ...

Congratulations, most people can't even spell that version of "too". Sadly, that's the one that means "also". That whittles your remaining choices down to either, "two" or "to".

There's a Huge Difference Between Having a perpetual Erection....

And Being a Perpetual Erection.......Mr. Sheen falls into the latter category
Wow, I couldn't bang my way through that many skanks, even in my prime.......
I guess we can rule out your real identity as being Charlie Sheen
I pretty sure he couldn't either. Most of them would probably fall asleep listening to him tell them what a grand favor they were being treated to. With that being said, and in an attempt to bring this back to topic, I pose this question, "do you think Charlie's new porn star girlfriend, will get $200.000 dollars from him before they're done with each other"? Will he pay it to "save" her perhaps?

While we're on the subject, I hated both, "Friends" and "Seinfeld", and found it mandatory to change the channel on, "2 1/2 Men" as soon as I was confronted with it. Methinks that studio execs are as stupid as the subject of this thread for paying that kind of money to actors for shows that are only charitably considered "funny". I mean really, they paid David Scwimmer about a mil an episode to portray a whiny, annoying, cuckold. He was rather good at it though, I suppose.

What's with all the Sheen bashing? (Pun?)

He was alright in Rookie......Well sort of.....Well, a little bit.

Oh and I didn't knew about all this until you guys pointed out ........ hmmm and this seems interesting Captain.

Save her from whom? Lexington Steele ? I really don't think Bree Olson wants to be saved

I thought that part of the Constitution read:
"We hold these sit-coms to be self-evident, that all characters are created equally inane, that they are endowed by their writers with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Self-importance, Residuals and the pursuit of Vacuousness."

I've never watched 2.50 Men or a full episode of Friends. I have seen Seinfeld, thanks to a once-trusted friend who swore that American TV humour was maturing (into what precisely was never clarified). Arrested Development seemed "ok"

Just been reading up on some of Charlie Sheen's antics... He likes his pornstars doesn't he!!! :haha:

I think he'd make a rather awesome reality TV show - though I'm not very sure he'd give the best impression of the USA as a whole. :p

A reality show? How can he be in it with two pornstar girlfriends and a (estranged) wife ?
