Microsoft porting Office ribbon to Windows 8? Screenshots inside

I know where you are coming from, at first I didn't liked the ribbon UI (in Excel/PP/Word/Visio/MSP etc.) at all; but with time I started to use it and now I think it is pretty useful replacement of old style menus (althoug I still find myself using 'shortcuts' most of the time, a bad habit I guess ;) ).
I'm in the same boat. I was first apprehensive of the Ribbon Interface for Office 2007, to the point where I had also installed third party software to add the standard pull down menus back. But after using it for a while it really is intuitive if you're looking for something. I too use keyboard shortcuts for most things since I know them, but the Ribbon has proved itself useful to me for that random function I don't know, or does not have a shortcut.

I'd MUCH rather prefer a standard pull down menu for explorer, however.

The ribbon is probably better suited to a touch screen than the standard file menus etc. Just an observation.

Either that or Kinect :)

I find the ribbon system very awkward to use, Possibly due to me avoiding learning to use it properly, As a computer programmer I should really take more time on it...

It may be functional, but it certainly isn't pretty if these screens are anything to go by.. :(
