Microsoft to increase Windows 8 upgrade pricing on February 1

So, Windows 8 fails to deliver on every front, and to make up for it MS increases the price. Right, that will turn heads...

I didn't want to waste time on Windows 8 for free, I most certainly won't pay a $30 for it, and if MS thinks by making it $200 it will get my interest - well, this is my last post about Windows 8, Amen!

OK, here's my idea. "Windows 8ista" should be free, and you should just have to pay the going rate for the hooker they dress up as a UPS driver, who brings it to your house..

Now repeat after me, (in a cockney accent, sil vous plait)...., "I'll like ta install my hardware in your software, sweet-hart"!

Just because no one has said it: I think most people are surprised that the offer wasn't extended, not that the price went up.

Forever the master of the single entendre !
:nudge: :nudge: ;);)
I don't want to rely on anyone's reading comprehension skills to get my point across.
Besides, shouldn't that be...., ;);) :nudge: :nudge: ? An ex made me sit through every episode of, "Monty Python's Flying Circus", and as I recall, that's how they said it.. I suppose allowances have to be made for different states of mind, former stimulant abuse on my part, and our respective hemispheres. Is it true that gag lines rotate backwards in the southern hemisphere?

And speaking of Russo-Cockney accents, I should probably watch, "A Clockwork Orange" another half dozen times before I die. Real horrorshow movie, than one.

But back to topic, if M$ had the yarbles to release Windows 8 in the first place, why wouldn't they have the yarbles to raise its price? As I recall, they didn't exactly give Vista away either.

Let's see...

Apple Mountain Lion OS X $19.99 Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow. Modern. A single full professional version. Virus-safe and crapware free. Loaded with GREAT software, all most people will ever need. "It just works". Easy upgrade. No driver nonsense.

Microsoft Windows 8 . :'(

I can't seem to find a single page missing from Apple's book. Looks like Microsoft authored this one all by their little selves.

Ah HAHAHAHAHAHA.... oh dear...

Technically the phrase is "Nudge nudge. Snap snap. Grin grin, wink wink, say no more?", although I've seen it transposed as WWNN in more than a few instances

As far as horrorshow movies go, A Clockwork Orange might not be in Malcolm McDowell's top twenty (Home Alone: The Holiday Heist, Caligula and Fist of the North Star for instance- and no, the third isn't a sequel to the second!)

Didn't give away. or couldn't give away ?

/sorry. I'll be quiet now.

Just bought windows 8 pro dvd for around 70 bucks. to my surprise there isn't any "system builder" or the typical retail version in my region. the former windows 7 pro cost twice as much, and I was wondering if I wasted 70 bucks for something that a new machine is not eligible for. or I must install the preview first to be 'eligible' for the upgrade process. not even a word of "upgrade version" exist on the box. and I'll be damned if the retail box looks better than this.

I've also been waiting for windows 8 tablets for a while now, and they're nowhere to be found except the samsung ativ and acer iconia w510. heck, the windows phone 7.8 is already taking more than a year after 7.5 update which was released less than 1 year after its original 7.0. goddamnit msft, get your **** together.

Windows 8,...yeah, yeah,

This is to all ya two-bit screen readers
and them Windows 8 boyas...

I'm a tech-spot resident, mind my bashing,
I ain't here trashing, I'm the geek-world president,

If you hear my word, you'll know I'm for real,
So you better listen up, there will be no appeal,

Welcome new MS-OS, Ballmer's child abortion-
Windows 8, just like before, the bathroom-tile version,

Jerk it to the left, jerk it to the right,
Sliding fingers on them screens blurry,
Desktop got shifty, better hold it tight,
Colors from a wet dream, ...the kind of story.

Where to surmise, in my blazing hit, not to be modest,
Windows 8 is a shittt :)

cliffordcooley "Microsoft must not be making enough money on Windows 8 sales, so they are raising prices to compensate. This makes me laugh so much more than I was already."

No, this was a planned marketing campaign to try lower the price intially to get people interested. Now it's going back to the "normal" price. I can't see them selling many once the price goes up, but if they have sold 60 million just as license inventories and OEM buyers than do they really care?

I'd be willing to spend $200 for Vista before I would $40 for Win8. I honestly don't care if they raised the price to $800.

Thanks for the correction though, on the price increase being planned from the beginning. I guess if I had been even a little bit interested in Windows 8, I would have known that. Just consider me an odd ball, since I'm not willing to go with the MS OS flow.

The only reason I upgrated to windows 8 I got it for $39.99 with free windows media center. Bad move Microsoft!

I share a similar sentiment. In fact, I'd pay $400 just to make Windows 8 go away.
Send me $400 (I'll even take 200) and I'll email you daily reminding you to not get Windows 8, I'll continue this until Microsoft releases the next version of Windows.

Of course it was a bad move, but they can afford to keep making bad moves. That is the problem for everyone.

Ok, I stepped back a little on my previous statements about never-ever, and bought Windows 8 for $15, after a discount, plus I paid another $5 for Start8 license, to avoid Metro as much as possible.

I only did it because my laptop needed OS re-installation. No way I will put it on my desktop though.

I got Windows 8 onto my Macbook Air as the second OS. Surprisingly, the pad now works straight away. I remember I couldn't get it to work with that Windows 8 Preview that I had on it before. MS must be supplying a working driver for Macbook Air-s now. Nice.

If you installed via bootcamp, it's actually Apple that provides the drivers for the touchpad.

This part eludes me... I had Windows 8 installed via bootcamp, never could get the Keyboard Pad to work. I installed Windows 8 Release from within the Preview, as an Upgrade, and that got the Pad sorted automatically. I'm not sure how bootcamp could have been part of that, I haven't booted in Mac OS for ages.

When creating the partition via bootcamp, apple must provide a reference point for drivers.

I installed better Magic Trackpad drivers in Windows by using files found in bootcamp.
