MS wireless kb not working correctly

I rebooted my tower yesterday but it wouldn't let me log in using my MS wireless KB so I figured it was dead batteries. I put new batteries in but still it wouldn't let me log in. Thankfully I had an apple KB which worked.
I'm now using an HP KB which is working. I removed & put back in the usb wireless thing for KB & mouse but no change. Is my KB dead or ??

Might add my wireless mouse is working fine, could the MS wireless KB be dead?
