Same problem

Okay, I have the same problem. Specs below:

ATI Xpress 200 (RS480)
ATI SB400
ITE 8716

I visited www.ati.com but found no help there. I'm running Windows XP Professional and am using an AMD Athlon 64.

Is this the replacement driver I want?:

https://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894&task=knowledge&folderID=27

Under "Sounds and Audio Devices" in the Control Panel, in the Volume tab it states plainly "No Audio Device" and the remainder of options are gray/background/inaccessible. In the Audio tab it follows: No Playback Devices, No recording devices, No MIMI Playback Devices; likewise under the Voice tab.

I also have the yellow question marks in my Device Manager next to the "Other Devices" tab and "Multimedia Audio Controller" and "SM Bus
Controller" sub-tabs.

I have the disk for my motherboard but I don't believe the sound was working before XP was installed.

People who have problems should be starting there own threads, instead of stealing demonkids thread

Deathskull
Go to device manager and delete the sound and audio devices tab. Then restart your computer and when it finds new hardware, it wil ask you for the drivers. at this time you should use the motherboard CD for the drivers, they should be there.
Good luck. tell us what happens

Eddy Rassey,

Thank you very much. Your prompt advice was stellar. Everything is working beautifully now.

Hynesy,

I believe what you mean is: "People who have problems should be starting their own threads instead of stealing Demonkid's."

Removed: redundancy, spelling error, misplacement of comma.
Added: missing apostrophe, missing capitalization.
Untouched: passive-aggressive flavoring.

I feel the addition to an existing thread was justified due to the similarity of the problem. Likewise, the solution. However, I did not want to attempt someone else's solution when it included deleting important files.

I didn't mean to be rude or anything, but people in these forums are extremely helpful and the people that start there own threats get more user specific replies for their problem, and please don't undermine my sentence structure, I feel that what I wrote is clear and doesn't needs to be re-worded.

i dont know if i am doing this all right so excuse me if i am not. i have a problem with my sound. i have sound but it sounds like the chimpmunks. i cannot figure out how to fix it. can anyone help? i think i may have accedentally gotten rid of something that i needed. not sure. remember something about multimedia audio controller. if i did get rid of it i cant find it. i have windows washer installed and i think something may have gotten bleached. ty

click on the volume control icon and check the master volume tabs and see if any are checked and uncheck them
Check your speaker connections at the PC. try a headphone instead of the speakers and see if you get good sound.
You may have to uninstall and re-install your sound devices and drivers

Go to your computer's support website and look for drivers/downloads for your model. Look for the SoundMax sound drivers. Download and install them

How To Fix The "no Audio Device"!!!!!!!

First You Go To The Device Manager List And Right Click On Multimedia Audio Controller Click On Update Driver And Then Click The Manually Choose A Program Go To The Audio Codecs And Just Choose One Of The Audios That Make Sense The Most It Practically Is Common Sense From Then On See If That Works Because Thats How I Got Mines Working=]] Good Luck Everyone =]]

16 year-olds don't have much patients... You will have to find drivers for your PCI sound card. Before you can do that, you have to know what make and model sound card your sound card is

Intel 82801DB(M) ICH4(-M) - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-1]

well hello every one i´m new here(from finland so my grammar isn´t great) i have same kind of problems with my soundcard drivers what have been on this thread. i bought my schools old comp about 3-5 years old not exatly sure and i can´t find its sound card anywhere, with aida32 and everest sys info programs i found out little info about it:

Win XP
motherboard: Asus P4M533-VM
soundcard (or something like that): Intel 82801DB(M) ICH4(-M) - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-1]

can any one give a little help for newbie of comps
( i´ll add full report if needed tomorrow when i´m at school with internet connection, currently i don´t have internet in my home until end of next month so i can´t use windows update for now)

(when i looked with google about my soundcard i found following driver
Intelr82801DB-DBM-DAAC97AudioController
could this be right one because the name doesn´t match)

Maleokore
The motherboard you listed does not show up anywere in Asus listings of motherboards. Check once again, you might have p4s533-vm model and for this you will find the driver here:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

to find the model number Asus says:

Rebooting your system

Hit the "Pause/Break" key when you see ASUS xxxx ACPI BIOS Revision"

For example:A7N8X-VM represents the motherboard model

Thanks for info i´ll try that. Here is full sys info just in case what i got with aida32 and everest something programs, they gave me exatly same info:
