You are using integrated sound, You will need to install motherboard drivers which also install the integrated sound drivers,

How To Fix The "no Audio Device"!!!!!!!

First You Go To The Device Manager List And Right Click On Multimedia Audio Controller Click On Update Driver And Then Click The Manually Choose A Program Go To The Audio Codecs And Just Choose One Of The Audios That Make Sense The Most It Practically Is Common Sense From Then On See If That Works Because Thats How I Got Mines Working=]] Good Luck Everyone =]]

16 year-olds don't have much patients... You will have to find drivers for your PCI sound card. Before you can do that, you have to know what make and model sound card your sound card is

    Intel 82801DB(M) ICH4(-M) - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-1]

well hello every one i´m new here(from finland so my grammar isn´t great) i have same kind of problems with my soundcard drivers what have been on this thread. i bought my schools old comp about 3-5 years old not exatly sure and i can´t find its sound card anywhere, with aida32 and everest sys info programs i found out little info about it:

    Win XP
    motherboard: Asus P4M533-VM
soundcard (or something like that): Intel 82801DB(M) ICH4(-M) - AC'97 Audio Controller [A-1]

can any one give a little help for newbie of comps
( i´ll add full report if needed tomorrow when i´m at school with internet connection, currently i don´t have internet in my home until end of next month so i can´t use windows update for now)

(when i looked with google about my soundcard i found following driver
    Intelr82801DB-DBM-DAAC97AudioController
could this be right one because the name doesn´t match)

The motherboard you listed does not show up anywere in Asus listings of motherboards. Check once again, you might have p4s533-vm model and for this you will find the driver here:
    http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us

to find the model number Asus says:

    Rebooting your system

Hit the "Pause/Break" key when you see ASUS xxxx ACPI BIOS Revision"

For example:A7N8X-VM represents the motherboard model

    it's doing my head in...

okay so i guess i must have deleted my drivers by accident...
    as yes...i am without sound.

i have tried most of the things that have been suggested on these boards and i don't know where to go next. my motherboard is a Gigabyte GA 8SIML.

its all to do with my multimedia audio controller

i checked out the maker of my motherboard and downloaded the drivers they suggested (which were both realtek and SiS)...nothing.

i tried to do a system restore to before when i deleted the driver...but it would seem the the option has been turned off for some time and there are no past restore points for me to use.

the device manager has the little yellow exclamation...a hardware conflict?
when i used the troubleshooter to try and resolve the conflict it made the problem worse...now i have a conflict with an SM bus controller.

i don't know what a BIOS is or if it would help matters to try and download a new one?

im only an a-level student and i think this is a bit out of my depth.

here is everything AIDA gave me...
