ahhh, the OEM thermal pad...now that stuff is worthless.I've only had one, small square of it stuck to the bottom of my cooler. Came with my E4600.
I think we're coming from different points of reference. With the stock HSF right out of the box, my i3-530 runs about 40c. (That would be on a hot day). That being said, that self same 530 probably has the lowest idle current draw in the desktop world. (so why would it get hot)? Don't tell me about the "Atom" and such, I'm referring to real CPUs.I wonder if that is something that changes from time to time. about half the time I get a tube of white stuff that looks and feels like it is the silicone based stuff that runs 7-8c warmer than AS. I gave up on it and exclusively use AS now.

He is, but I think the stock cooler is beefier with that CPU. If all else fails you could try and find an old Pent "D" stock HSF. I think some of those, and the regular P-4s had a copper core. I stuffed a cooler from an 86 watt Celeron 356 on my E2200, that worked out pretty good. It is actually about 1 1/2 times as high as the E2200's. But then, I compute at the leisurely pace of the old man that I am.ah, I was speaking of just the quality of thermal compound, not the i530 specifically...whats an Atom?
I thought he was talking about getting a i750?
BTW, Microcenter was selling the Cooler Master Hyper 212 for $19.95 a couple of months back. When that cooler got great reciews, Newegg upped the price to 50 bucks.
Blu-Ray isn't all that hard to do, even the integrated graphics in the Intel Core i3 CPUs will run it decently. Point being, you can save money at the outset, since you won't need a killer video card right away. The new issues of Photoshop are supposed to be able to take advantage of hardware acceleration, so a decent card wouldn't hurt
.
As luck would have it, I was wandering around Micro center today getting a keyboard and a HSF for a customer build and the 212 was still $20.00. I was largely unaware of that place before you started talking about in here, They really have some great prices on a lot of things.
But then there's photoshop's GPU acceleration...idk.If you're not gaming, I think the HD 5750 is still a bit of a waste. You can drop down to an HD 5450 without problems IMHO.
you don't know how right you are about the last sentence:haha:. They don't advertise around here and it is tucked away off the main road. I am glad CC kept talking about them though, for $10.00 more on a Corsair HX 650 (than Newegg) its worth being able to take it home....of course my wife hates that its so close.Red I'm going to call and pull your noob card. I bought 5 intel ssd's for 94 usd each for a friend of mine in MC 3 weeks ago. He is now raging about super fast load times in mw2, and a w7 boot time of 22 secs from power on,(w7 something I've yet to buy as you know) we need to get you out of the shop more often.
OK listen, that's just plain stupid. If you need an i7 to run Blu-Ray on a computer, then maybe you should go buy a hundred dollar Blu-Ray player at Walmart, and use that.I ran it the other day with my brother before he headed off to class on his i7 rig. First time I saw 8 threads throttling up simultaneously.

Hey old man, I was talking about photoshop, not blueray. Us young folk own ps3's we dont need blueray players.
