New Built Computer Does not turn on

In most cases the 230V coil would produce too much current in the secondary winding, but for the few seconds you tried this it shouldn't have blown the coil. There is no fuse you can replace, in fact you can't get into the case unless you damage it.(safety reasons, high voltage).

Just take it back to the store ASAP and tell them to check it out, you think it's not working properly. (which it probably isn't). Tell them you think the switch might have been set to 230V before you noticed it. If it's a good store they'll replace it for you.

As for the monitor, let's wait and see what happens when you get a good PSU in the PC. Check the video card installation again and make sure you have the power connector from the PSU connected to it before turning on the PC.

Hello all,

I have finally replaced my motherboard. Now when I turn on my computer, everything boots except there is a blank screen and I hear 1 long and 2 short beeps. Then I tried taking 1 ram out and it booted. I've tried putting the other ram in other slots but the same result. It will only work with 1 ram, does anyone know why?

Can you switch the RAM sticks and still boot? This will check that both sticks are good, maybe the one is dead. Also check the mobo manual to ensure the 2 sticks are in the correct slots, 1 and 3, or 1 and 2, but not 2 and 3, this sort of thing.

Same Type of Situation... Please Help

Here's my first and new build, and having the blank monitor issue:

AMD 64 3800 X2
ASUS A8N5X
Ultra XConnect 500W PSU
PNY Verto GeForce 6600 GT 128 MB (no additional power connector, molex not neede)
OCZ Platinum Dual Channel 3200 sticks - 2GB
WD Raptor HD
ThermalTake XASER V ALU WINGO V7000D

I do have the raised mb with the standoffs, can't see it grounded anywhere on the case.
The CPU/Heatsink looked pretty greased up as well.
All of the case fans (5 total), Graphics card fan, PSU fans and lights all turn on. However, I can push the power button for the PC to turn on, but pressing again does nothing. I went over all of my connections.
Also, when the CD ROM is connected, it doesn't respond, blinks initially but the tray doesn't pop out. So I've disconnected both the HD and CDROM.
Also, tried a standard PCI video card.
Also, took out the RAM.
Also, had ASUS send me an updated BIOS chip.
I haven't smelled any burning.

Any more ideas?

Actually, any recommendations about the standoff's? Anything to make sure the mb is not grounded?

Thanks, much appreciated!

I need a little more description of what it's doing/not doing. Are you hearing any beeps when you power on? It's just fans spin up and black screen no beeps?

There are 3 possiblilites I can think of:
1) Mobo is grounding to case and thus holding down the supply.
2) CPU or mobo is dead.
3) PSU 3.3V and 5V rails are dead.
4) PWR-on and Reset case switches are plugged into mobo in reverse.

Possible Solution/Troubleshoot:
1) Use some home made cardboard washers between stand-offs and mobo on both sides of the mobo, to really guarentee no short to case.

2) Ensure you have the 4 pin power plug from PSU plug into the mobo right beside the CPU. Ensure the 20/24pin connector is seated properly. Ensure the CPU is seated properly in the socket.

3) Disconnect a few of the case fans (not the CPU fan) and the DVD/CD stuff. Leave HDD/video card and RAM connected.

4) Double check these connections. To check that the Power On pins are working in the PSU, remove the 20/24pin connector from the mobo and the 4 pin to the CPU connector (to be safe). Locate the GREEN wire on the 20pin conn. Jumper this to any BLACK wire (ground) Use a paperclip or other short piece of conductive wire. Now plug in PSU and turn on back power switch. All the fans should come on. The green wire being connected to ground is what happens when you press the front case power switch. (maybe that switch is broken?). You can connect the RESET case switch to the Power on connector to the mobo to test this. The diff is the RESET is momentary and the Power switch is "click on/click off"). So you'd have to hold the RESET switch on and see if she boots. As soon as you release the power will be cut.

Just some thoughts. Let us know what you find/try.

Cheers.

Thanks so much for the quick response.

Here we go...
There are no beeps of any kind when I press the case power button and the fans turn on. Also, there are no lights on my keyboard. But that's it, the fans spin up on everything and nothing comes to the screen. I'm thinking RMA with ASUS.
Also, I've tested my monitor by plugging it into my laptop.

Since my post, I've disconnected everything, removed the mb from the case and put it on top of the anti-static cover and then on top of some cardboard.

I started with the bare essentials.
I have my CPU and Heatsink plugged onto the mb with the CPU power connector to the mb, making sure it's not the fan socket.
I plugged in my 20/24 pin connector from PSU and mb.
I plugged in the keyboard. (sorry, just trying to be thorough)
I plugged in those little bastard wires for case power, reset, etc.
I plugged in each of the video cards PCIEx16 and PCI, powered it on and nothing to the screen.
I plugged in each of the video cards and then 1 stick of RAM, nothing.
I just have the bare minimum, I didn't plug in the HD because at least the BIOS should come to the screen from the BIOS chip.

Now I will have to try your 4th recommendation about testing the PSU. If I don't reply back, call an ambulance... LOL

Thanks again
