   Some jailbreak software that people are working allow you to use it without the SIM card. But they are glitchy. If you do the jailbreak, the only disadvantages are: warranty void, or lag if you have anything under 16gb. But, if you just backup data, and just renew the firmware, then the warranty doesn't matter.
