just took a quick glance at your post... like is said, i want to see all the devices in that report so if you can save to a file then attach it.

your snips of the data in your posts omit several different types of data i'm looking for, one example: more specifics about your BIOS. Can you re-run the reports as requested and attach the data as requested?

    Hardware

I'm not a PC expert... far short of it. However, I have designed circuit lay-outs and manually constructed electronic PCBs, (printed circuit boards), from these lay-outs, similar in nature to mother boards. As you're probably aware, using excessive or even medium strength force to install a component onto a mother board is an absolute no-no!

Because most components work on very small currents and voltages, static electricity is always a hazard. I presume you earth yourself before adding/removing components from the mobo.

Sounds to me like you may have cracked a solder joint on one of the electronic components. This can have the effect of causing the device to work intermittently.

Another possibility is that with time electronic components can degrade, and may work when a PC is first started up and still cold, but as they warm up, for a number of reasons, (eg change of internal resistance), will malfunction intermittently or totally shut down. However, since the problem started when you forced the graphics card into the mobo, it's improbable this is the answer.

If I had to bet on it, I'd put my money on physical damage to the mobo.

The ones i have in bold are the sound devices, which only appears in safe mode. Also, the Crystal Sound device is not listed.

Well it wasn't the sound card that i force in, it was the PNY 8400GS 512MB PCI card that i kinda force in, and yea i guess a portion of the motherboard was hit or something and is causing the problem.
  4. mailpup TechSpot Special Forces

The cracking I was talking about was a physical cracking of the motherboard, not a crackling from a speaker or headphone. That's two different things. Now I'm not talking about a massive crack that you can drive a truck through but enough of a bend and cracking of the motherboard that may have affected an onboard sound circuit. The affected circuit doesn't have to right next to the graphics card that you forced in.

The key word is "forced." Anytime you force something there is a risk of damage. All I'm saying is maybe the sound problems you are having is due to damage caused by forcing the graphics card into its slot. If so, there is no easy way of fixing it. I only bring this up as just a possibility.

Oh sorry bout that. I don't remember hearing a cracking noise. The card is very big, but i was so hype about having it at the time, lol i kinda force the card in. Now i know not to buy those cards anymore. So i guess its damage or something.

Sound came back , sounds clear, no issues.

LOL I was in the middle of installing a sound driver off my win98se system installer disc, when my computer froze , so i had to restart, and it says found hardware, etc installing software, and there you go.

Oh well, i will enjoy it while i can, because when i shut off my computer before i rest tonight, it will disappear again, i guess.

    For starters
    1. You need to carefully determine the version of the intel 810 chipset on your motherboard (start here)
    2. you need carefully determine your motherboard!! (start here) It's not clear if it's a pure Intel board or an intel board sold thru OEM (Gateway computers?). VISUALLY identify it at some point!
    3. If you have an OEM board you should be finding chipset software on the OEM site and not the Intel site.
    4. You should always try installing chipset software based on motherboard if at all possible. If can't, only then try the chipset vendor
    5. Have you been changing the chipset software at all?? as you switched back and forth between operating systems? (it can vary between XP and 98se) if so, where were u pulling the software from??
    6. You also need id the motherboard as some have hardware jumpers for sound control as well
    7. You didn't give me the BIOS info. And you'll need verify what version you are using/should be using.
    8. I believe that onboard sound for the 810 chipset family is all controlled by IntelĀ® 82801AA ICH (I/O Controller Hub) so all its functions and BIOS settings are relavent as well
    9. You should look back for edits as will probably have a couple more things to add but will have to wait till morning till i look-em-up

P.S. In the future, please paste long text reports into notepad and attach to your TechSpot post :)
P.P.S. And all the above in addition to the possibility you have something broken/cracked as well!

Do you have in add & remove programs High Definition driver package installed on your PC Tha General. Or some kind of thing like that ?
  9. Tha General TechSpot Paladin

Well folks, the bottom line, it seems like something is wrong with my onboard audio, i must of hit something when i kinda force the video card or the video card did something to my motherboard onboard audio, either way i am buying 2 sound cards soon.
    peace
  10. Tha General TechSpot Paladin

Now this is interesting. I type in msconfig, change it to " Normal startup, load all devices , drivers and software and my sound came back(found hardware, installing drivers).

What do you make of that ?
  11. electromagnetic Newcomer, in training

    Back for good or temporary.
  12. Tha General TechSpot Paladin

Hey Electromagnetic, seems to be back for good. It seems it was a problem with certain drivers or devices loading up, because after going into msconig , changing the settings to normal setup, the sound is back for good.

So i am guessing when i had that PNY 8400GS, it did something to my setup, but all is well know.

Btw, if you was wondering why my youtube account i haven updated any videos lately because i am getting a new computer soon for the newer games, so i will update soon.

But i have a second youtube gaming page, for win98se which i am back to using. I can't record any sound, on win98se, because of fraps version which i have to use.
I plan to add music to my videos.

I haven't finish the page yet, should be finish in a few days or so.
