Open Forum: What desktop speakers do you use?

Edifier 2600T. Usually around £80, a well known UK retailer regularly sold them for half price a few years ago. Even at full price they're an excellent set of bookshelves, so they're remembered as something of a legend.

Nowadays it's popular to buy into a decent external AMP/DAC combo, and a decent set of headphones and/or a high quality set of passive bookshelves.

I bought a couple of small 2.1 systems, one by Altec which was nice in the the "sub-woofer" contained the amplifier, so that you could use any satellites you chose for the desktop.

However, as I have small desks and the current crop of 27" monitors, there's no room for speakers on the desktop anymore.. :D

No biggie though, I don't use the computer as an audio source anyway. Being old and crotchety, I prefer to listen to music on a pair of JBL twin 8" woofer towers, and monitor the computer with a pair of twenty buck headphones, should it become necessary.

Been stuck with the ones built into my monitor for a couple years now - thin walls in my flat plus not much desk space meant it was better to drop from the standard 2.1 speakers I was using to just the built in ones, and then use headphones for majority of gaming, music etc.

My Desktop is connected to my home A/V receiver so that would be Polk Audio RTI series all the way around. Not exactly defined as Desktop speakers though.

Got several computers. One has klipsch promedia 2.1. One has ancient Logitech z680, best pc speakers ever. Another has m audio m3-8s. My main, which is hooked up to my receiver, has kef q300s front, deftech 1000's rear, and a Hsu vtf3 mk5 15" sub. I suppose I went a bit speaker crazy.

I gave up on 'computer speakers' quite a while ago. I now use SPDIF optical from mobo to a NAD D3020 hybrid digital amp (a nice, inexpensive, small unit actually) to two 85 cm tall Mirage floorstanders. Great for music and movies.

A cheap noname 2.1 setup I got for 10 bux many many years ago. But it's made out of wood and the sound ok considering I rarely use them (wireless gaming headsets for me).

Microlab 7c New

Not really typical desktop speakers, but they are on the desk (quite large) so 'desktop speakers' for me. LOL

Since the hearing loss kicked in I only use headphones and these are so old the Mfg. name has worn off! Did Edison ever make headphones? :)

Well, you asked for it...
