Outlook Express - missing filed emails

Any help appreciated.

A couple of times recently when exiting OE it has asked if I wanted my messages compacted. I ssaid yes but it 'hung'. I now find that some of my email messages stored in folders have disappeared. I did not have the option 'delete read messages' checked.

Where might they have gone? How can I get them back.

If you go into Tools/Options/Maintenance,you can stop it compacting emails by unchecking the box.As for the missing emails,if you or a program interrupted the compaction process,something might have got corrupted. - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/community/columns/filecorruption.mspx -- http://forums.wugnet.com/Compact-Messages-ftopict447221.html A good argument for backing up your .dbx folders.
