PC games aren't working, losing mind

By Darknecromance
Jun 20, 2010
  1. Hate to have this as my first post, but ere goes.

For months I was able to play the Total War games series, from Rome up to Empire Total War, without an issue. I even had some mods, such as Sicilian Vespers etc, and they too worked, without a problem. Now the same comp which was able to play all the games perfectly, will not play them without freezing after a few minutes and being unplayable. I have updated my NVIDIA, downloaded the patches for each game, and still no avail. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Also not completely computer Savvy.

Is it games only that these issues occur or does the problems occur while doing other things? That Athlon chip is a nice one.

    1. Did you check for dust build up?

    2. How is your air flow?

    3. If this is still under warrenty I'd be contacting HP support and let them fix this issue.

Its only on games that the issue occurs. Yes i checked for dust build up, air flow, and the warranty is over.

If I'm not mistaken then this HP Pavilion should be your current PC. It is rather recent so it should actually still be under warranty. If you bought it locally from an HP affiliate take it to them to look at.

The only thing I can think of (outside of a hardware issue) is that your drivers somehow got messed up and this is causing the issues. HP should have provided you with a recovery disk that you could use to try to repair your system. You could also just reformat to the default factory settings, however that would DELETE everything on your hard drive so use it as a last resort and after you backed up important documents.

On a side note, your GPU is an integrated card and not exactly powerful. While it does run the game a simple low-end GPU should give you better performance. And since your PC is rather new you have the ability to grow if you want too, just some food for thought :slurp:.

PS: Total War series is awesome, big fan myself :grinthumb .

Well i did restart the comp to computer default after exhausting what i felt were my options.

The problem is everything worked perfectly, hell better than perfectly. And then it magically started freezing.

    Ah...what does that mean?
How about you go into your NVidia control panel, and check to see if it is set to performance rather that power saving or whatever.

Restart as in restarting the PC? Or restart as in reformatting back to original settings when you first got the PC?

    Specifically what?

If the drivers are installed properly, there should be a tray icon in the bottom right, click that and select control panel.
