I tested ICS awhile back and both machines where on line at the same time????
that said
sorry you could not get it to work
and yes in long run most routers will aslo stop the open ports
I don't know if yours will ,but by default it should have some settings for this
after you get the bugger you can uninstall any software from your provider
for dsl set mtu to 1492 for cable set it to 1500
dsl can use static settings in most cases ,,cable can not
