I need some advice about a computer problem. I got a new HP desktop running Windows 7. I loaded the following free software.
AOL for her mail
AVG anti virus
Skype
Google Picasa for photos
Open Office for word docs
Mozilla Firefox

I waited several weeks for all the updates to settle down. While surfing the internet I was asked to load Adobe and video player etc.and I did.

The problem is that while surfing I get erroneous windows that pop up that I assume is from some Malware that got loaded without my knowledge. The HP support person thought that was the problem also so I ran a program called Malwarebytes and it found several items that I got rid of but the problems continue. Also in the Mozilla browser I set Yahoo as the home page but it won't stay set. It keeps going to AOL instead.

By the way my sister uses the same software on her desktop XP PC with no issues.

What's your suggestions for a fix. Should I buy malware/virus software instead of using free stuff?
