Possible modem problem - need your help!!

Hi! I'm getting desperate and I really need some help. A couple of days ago my computer stopped connecting to the Internet. Prior to this I had been successfully using the dial-up connection for 6 months, and as far as I know no settings were changed on my computer.

As the same connection still works on all the other computers in the house, my ISP says it doesn't have anything to do with them.

Here's the specifics:

My modem dials just fine and goes through all the normal negotiations, makes the connection noise, says it's connecting, but when it hits "verifying username and password" it comes back immediately with "unable to connect".

I'm using Windows XP, with a Lucent Win Modem.

I have done all the following:
Tried uninstalling and reinstalling relevant drivers
Tried about 6 inits suggested by my ISPs help desk
Tried all the connection speeds
Gone through all the troubleshooting advice

I've probably done more than this in terms of checking all the settings, but I can't think of it all now.

Any suggestions on what the problem might be?? TIA!

Check to make sure the modem is installed correctly in DEvice Manager.
I know you have doen this but just in case , delete the logon name and password and re-type them very carefully.
It this fails, try another modem yours may just have broken.
