Hi peeps, Newbie here.
I am haveing a problem opening up print preview in Excel. The OS is XP professional. print preview takes ages to open up but then closes down quite quickly, then opens up quickly but then takes ages to close down again,
any suggestions to correct this would be much appreciated.

Presumably your printer is on a home-network. This is usually a bit slow, as the connection from PC to printer (maybe even via a printserver) needs to be established the first time. The second time it only needs to be (re-)established, which is faster. Disconnecting then may cause more delay on your network.

Maybe someone else has another view?

the problem machine is one of four on a network (primarily computer training for local community).
I can see where your are coming from but even when not networked problem still exists, in other applications print preview works fine. the file sizes to be previwed are not mega size either.
I don,t have machine details to hand but all four machines installed at the same time and all have same specs.
any further advice gratefully accepted.

You use Norton/Symantec on those machines? This has a plug-in for Office programs. Everytime some action takes place, this ***** program checks the file for virii. You can switch it off somewhere in the extra AV-settings.
Worth a try.

Slow

Same thing happening with our machines. Five machines installed at the same time, XP Pro, MS Office 2003. Print, Print Preview, Save As and other functions are very slow. Very little on the web. Anything?
