Problems installing a second hard drive

Hi, I recently bought a new 80Gb Maxtor DiamonMax+9 hard drive. I've put it in the case and i think ive wired it up correctly (i'm not very good with hardware but i set the jumper to slave and put the IDE cable in and all that).

Problem is although it seems to be recognized by BIOS and by device manager it doesnt show up in 'My Computer. and i can't seem to access it.

Does it need partitioning or something?

I'm running Windows XP on a relatively new machine.

Go to the control panel/administrative tools/computer management. Highlight "disk management" in the left pane and see if it shows on the right. You may need to format the drive for it to show properly.
