I searched Maxtor's website, searching for drivers for the hd and they don't supply any. Would using their program (MaxBlast) to install and format the drive, rather than using Windows to do it, work? Or would that just be a waste of time

you're right.. i don't often deal with dell systems.. i was speaking out of generality..

i know dell uses propriety systems, but this would've been taking things too far... Anycase, i'll leave this thread to you since you seem to know more about this, but i'll be around if you need me.. gimma a holler then..

Kylo, you can try it (using maxblast). Theres nothing to loose if it doesn't work.. as per your question about the DOS disk, you can google one up, or rather just download Knoppix (bootable free linux distro) with NTFS support and burn on a CD to boot from.. probably easier to find your way around with knoppix than dos..

Yes, I found them... I will post a link that will take you to the site as well as have the instructions that you need to follow... I am at an Internet cafe and as soon as I get home it will be done... Glad to help you get it going... Next time Don't mess with a Dell...... They got their stuff so rigged that if you had a motherboard with a 3.2 ghz
Celoron cpu and you took another 3.2 ghz Celoron and swaped it, the system wouldn't boot. The processor as well as the hard drive has an ID # or a serial # that has to match a preconfigured OEM setup in the BIOS. As far as I know, Dell is the only one to do this... You can Google this info and verify what I am telling you.

Thanks. The link is not working and when I time the web address it goes to an error page.
