Something to try, method #4 here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=290301

But in this case, you'll be searching for Java installer in step #1.
    Skip step #2.
Step #3, check if there's a Java folder in "c:\Program Files\Common Files\". Delete it if present.
    Skip step #4.

Then reboot. And see if you can install Java.

Yes, the idea is the same. But I've made some changes to suit your need:

Ok, do I delete java fiolder I show in the previous thread?

I followed the link you posted, but got stuck here.
Click to select the Subject check box, type 340 in the Width of selected column (in pixels) box, and then click OK.
Note It may take several minutes for the subjects to appear next to each MSI file.

Yes, that would be step #3. Delete Java folder in the Common Files folder.

Where in step 1.6 are you stuck? You don't see "Subject"? If that's the case, you'll need to scroll down the list.

This "Click to select the Subject check box, type 340 in the Width of selected column (in pixels) box, and then click OK.
Note It may take several minutes for the subjects to appear next to each MSI file.

I don't see that in the Installer folder any place & I've scrolled up & down a few times.

The java folder has been deleted

Locate each .MSI file where the subject is "Microsoft Office <product name> 2010," right-click the MSI file, and then click Uninstall.
Note <product name> is a placeholder for the name of the 2010 Microsoft Office product.

After rebooting,I can't get back to do the above:(

I spoke too soon but still want to confirm I'm supposed to delete the above 36 msi files?
  11. Rabbit01 TechSpot Enthusiast Posts: 763   +12

    Rebooting...that would be step #4.

After that, there's no reason to go back to step 1.9.

What do you mean by "can't get back to the above"? The Installer folder?
  12. learninmypc TechSpot Guru Posts: 3,026   +100

Was I supposed to delete the 36 .MSI files before rebooting? They haven't been deleted yet.
  13. Rabbit01 TechSpot Enthusiast Posts: 763   +12

What we're trying to accomplish here is to get Java to install again. While there are other installers in that folder, we're focusing on the ones that has to do w/ JRE. So, if the 36 .msi files you've found has to do w/ Java Runtime Environment, then go ahead & delete them.

    Hope this clarifies the objective.

tO BE SAFE & NOT SORRY, THESE.

Those are the ones I want to know if they should be deleted.

After I rebooted,I did try to update & it still told me it was already installed.

    Keep them.

Once again, I'm out of idea.

Maybe there are still something in the registry that's causing the problem. Anyway, I was looking for alternatives to CCleaner and found this - Glary Utilities . It reminds me of Norton Utilities.

It can be found here too - http://www.techspot.com/downloads/2217-glary-utilities.html

I haven't tried the software, but while I was checking out the web site for this program, I came across this - http://www.glarysoft.com/products/utilities/registry-repair/

It found a bunch of error that weren't picked up by CCleaner. Check it out, see if it can fix whatever is causing your problem.

Messing with the registry scares the ???? out of me but I'll try it. Hopefully I'll return with good news.;)

    Here we go

    The first scan.

The default setting is "create restore point before repair" but just to be safe, click Menu, then Settings. The box next to Create a Restore Point Before Repair should have a check.

    Then click Repair.
