I'm very interested, if that will work...
...and no, you just go with this:

Let's see, if we can look at your computer booting from an external source.

Please download OTLPE (filesize 120,9 MB)

  • When downloaded double click on OTLPENet.exe and make sure there is a blank CD in your CD drive. This will automatically create a bootable CD.
  • Reboot your system using the boot CD you just created.
    • Note : If you do not know how to set your computer to boot from CD follow the steps here
  • Your system should now display a REATOGO-X-PE desktop.
  • Depending on your type of internet connection, you should be able to get online as well so you can access this topic more easily.
  • Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
  • When asked Do you wish to load the remote registry, select Yes
  • When asked Do you wish to load remote user profile(s) for scanning, select Yes
  • Ensure the box Automatically Load All Remaining Users" is checked and press OK
  • OTL should now start.
  • Press Run Scan to start the scan.
  • When finished, the file will be saved in drive C:\OTL.txt
  • Copy this file to your USB drive if you do not have internet connection on this system
  • Please post the contents of the OTL.txt file in your reply.

In case you were wondering, the cable I'm referring to is an IDE to usb cable. So I have to open my box, connect the cable to the dvd drive, power on the pc (so the dvd drive has power) and then can connect it to my laptop through usb.

Laptop boots to dvd drive and I get the screen saying Starting Reatogo-X-PE... with the loading bar at the bottom. Bar loads completely, however it stays at the screen with the fully loaded bar for a couple minutes (2-3). Switches over to the Windows XP loading screen... the blue bar loads for about 3-4 times and then hits me with a BSOD... :(

At this point, I'm just concerned about a few files on my laptop that haven't yet been backed up (school work) Is there a way to back those up and then just format my laptop? =\

The only reason for this to happen would be some hardware issue, but, most likely, not a hard drive, since you're booting from USB (hard drive is not involved).

You can always slave that hard drive in your desktop to retrieve data.
Normally, it could be done through OTLPE, but apparently something else is going on there.

Hmm this is really unfortunate :( I've been able to boot my laptop just fine up until I did the
bootrec /FixMbr
Could this be the problem?

Resetting MBR is really a very standard procedure and I performed it on tens of computers on this forum alone.
I really have no other explanation.

So I suppose I should simply buy an external enclosure for my laptop HDD, hook it up to my pc, back up the files that I need, put it back into my laptop and format it and reinstall win7?

I feel that might be the best course of action at this point. I don't really have a lot of time to tinker around with this problem. I really need access to my laptop and right now it's not working :(

This is exactly what I'd do and I'd pray, fresh installation (after backing up data) will cure the issue.
